The other day I noticed the air coming out of my fan was warm, i stuck my hand IN the case and it was warm in there. I check the cpu temp lcd on the front of my case and it said 88.8 C !!!! I went to play CS:S and after 30 min an alarm went off on my motherboard and it said the cpu was at 91.9 C !!! i shutdown...came back and restarted. It was 80 something for a while but never hit 90's again. I took the heatsink and proccessor out....wiped off all the gook....put new gook on. Put everything back in, restarted, delt with stupid bios errors...fixed bios and it STILL reads 80 something...wtf? do i have a broken temp gauge? someone said if i can touch the heatsink for more then 5 seconds without it burning i should be allright....

what to do

Are you sure it was 88.8 C? That would equal a good 200 F, I think..
We need more information. What CPU do you have? Are you using Stock Cooling? Did you try changing the fans? Is the fan on the heatsink moving or is sitting there doing nothing? Is there dust build up anywhere?

The fan on your heatsink is on and blowing onto the heatsink, right?

Heheh, in other words make sure your heatsink fan doesn't suck :P

yeh make sure that the fan is on so taht it blows air down and through the fins on teh heat sink. Also get a few other programs to verify the temperatures, down everest home edition to check the temps. You can find it here: http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en&pageid=3

That should say whether the temps you have got are accurate. Also follow teh advice of everyone else here to deal with teh fan and dust build up.

i currently seem to have 125C for cpu.....

but works fine.....

Are you sure it's not fahrenheit? And do you have thermal paste/pad on?

BTW if you do take the fan off, you have to re-apply the paste/pad

Thats got to be in F man... cuz 125C is 257F... which would probably cause you system not to work anymore...

My CPU montior has triggered alarms before but it can become inaccurate very quickly and then go back to normal (from personal experience). Unless you know there is for sure a problem then i would not worry about it. If you are not overclocking stock cooling is usually more than enough except for CPU's like intels 3.8Ghz.

Oh and I could not resist!

Question: cpu hot...what to do
Answer: cool it down............

A close friend of mine witnessed the aftermath of a Celeron exploding the core clear across the case.

HAHHA...thanks...i downloaded everest and it says my cpu is at 32 C....wonderfull...i was SO worried...i must have a shitty temp sensor..thx guys

also...i did put new paste on it and it has made a world of difference from my usual 50-60 something temp....thanks Antec!!!

OMG I'M RETARDED!!! My brother was messing with my computer and set the front lcd to read in Farenheit not Celcius!!! jesus i'm dumb

i know i said "it read 88.8 C!!!" but that's cause i assumed it was C
