Credit Card Fraud?

I was about to play some more CS: S this morning, but now it says I have commited Credit Card fraud! I used the same credit card to purchase Half-Life 2 silver package for me and my brother (on 2 different accounts). There is supposedly a 1 purchase limit for each credit card or something ridicolous like that. Now it has taken CS: S, DOD:S etc. off my ****ing list.

I'm wondering has anyone else had this problem?

I've heard of similar issues on the Steampowered.com forums, IIRC. I wouldn't waste any time... try PM'ing a forum moderator over there. They should be able to get some info from you and help you get this cleared up.

Okay, thanks for the info, its appreciated.

Wait. You managed to actually buy the game twice? I don't think many have succeeded with that. A friend of mine tried to do the same for me but it rejected the card before he got a chance to give them any money. And now I'm without CS:S while he gets to play the sneaky bastard :)

But yeah, PM a mod there and ask. Plz post the response so other here can see it too. I'd like to know how to get my hands on this game too damnit ;(

No, I tried the buy the game twice with the same credit card on 2 different accounts (my brothers and mine). My brother can play it, but I can't (sneaky bastard times two - even though I put my transaction through first) Here is what the moderator said:

Me: Thank you for reading my PM qUiCkSiLvEr, I appreciate it. So I can't use the same credit card for 2 purchases?
qUiCkSiLvEr (moderator): Yes you can as long as you make arrangements first.

Here is a link to the thread.

Can anyone tell me what he means by "Yes you can as long as you make arrangements first?"

Quicksilver can, or at least he should. Reply back and let him know that it's evident you didn't make such "arrangements," and that you need to know what to do now.

Incidentally, were you charged for both purchases?

Can you guys quote me, I'm trying to fix a problem with a Icarus

I've been seeing that, it's happened with quite a few people. Wierd. :|

Yeah, its weird. it sucks about your card, hope you are able to get your money back, has Valve said anythig yet ?

jokes on you, we were all ignoring you.

Who are you guys talking to?...

And good luck with your problem Harryz, in the meantime take over your brother's account!

*Hopes are sky-rocketing if this 24-hour rule is correct* Yay.

Mine worked fine. I bought a copy for myself (silver package) and one for a friend (bronze packahe) cause he didn't have a CC. Hopefully this doesn't happen with my account.

Okay.....

I posted in the Steam customer help, they should give me a reply soon, I will tell you how it goes when I get a reply.

Once you buy something your credit card is "banned" to stop credit card fraud. To unban it e-mail [email protected] with the e-mail account you made the first purchase with.

Hello,

My name is (put name here), I have run into a problem (as have many people) with the upgrade process (ATI Voucher > Silver). I upgraded my own personal ATI voucher = Bronze to the Silver package with no problems. I slide my chair over to my daughters (who is 13 yrs old) computer to do likewise with her ATI voucher. I enter all my information just as before, but it comes up with a window stating: Credit Card Use Limit Exceeded. I’m glad to know that you are doing everything you can to protect your customers from credit card fraud and will prosecute fraud to the fullest extent of the law. But try and look at by a customer’s point of view, or even a 13 yr. old Customers view. I believe that this is a little overkill, don’t you think. I could understand it if I used it 10 times in one day to buy packages via steam.

In the email response it ask me to go over the information and if all is correct, (here is the good part) consider using a different credit card. I know some high society people probably have a pocket full of these plastic babies. I guarantee that these people are not who will be purchasing you products. Myself I don’t see the need for many plastic nuisances, the card I used to upgrade my voucher in fact is a Debit/Credit card. Which means that I can use it as a credit card (at no extra cost to me) and it comes directly out of my checking account?

What about the many of households who have several adults and minor children, and have several computers in the house and would like to purchase several items via Steam. Many people try to avoid having more than 1 credit card at a time (this is me for one). When I was able to open a checking account and get a Debit/Credit card, I immediately discontinued the use of my credit card. This is not even to mention the households that don’t even have any form of credit card (and don’t want one) I guess they won’t be able to upgrade or purchase via stem. Surely you wouldn’t expect every household to rush out and get a credit card for every purchase made via steam.

In conclusion I would just like to say that I don’t think that this was given enough thought. It doesn’t make good business sense to say the least. Think about it, let’s say early one morning you go to Wal-Mart = (Retail Store) and you need to pick up a few items. When you get to the cashier you are told that you can only purchase one item with your credit card, and should consider using a different credit card for each item that you have in your cart. Do you think this would make much business sense? Do you think they would have many return customers? I know that things are changing in the gaming world, and Valve is leading the way. Just don’t fall behind by making bad/unthought-of business decisions that will haunt you in the days and years to come.

I hope that I have not offended anyone, as that is not my intent. My intent is to let you know that I am upset as many other people are as well. I do believe that Valve needs to consider their customers before doing things as this, among others, without us where would Valve be. I hope to see this company prosper for many years to come, and hope to be one of your faithful customers during that time as well.

Thank you,
(Put name here)

I just would like to say in response to your posts about people thinking rational about this, and it not being a big deal. When un-rational things happen to me I do what I think needs to be done, no matter what others say or think.

It seems that the 24-hour rule is BS. My friend & I tried that last night (no funny ideas...) & it didn't work. So he contacted them via the [email protected] mail & it seems he got through almost immediately & they appear to be fixing HIS card atm at least.

So I suggest you mail them too since that seems to work. The only weird thing is that you would have to mail them multiple times between using the card which is almost equally stupid in the first place ;)

if some guy with such a random name as "quicksilver" in alternating upper lower case letters wanted my credit card details because i made a completely legit purchase with my card i'd tell him where to go

Yeah i got this mail from GabeN@valvesoftware.com saying that he needed my CC to confirm my identify and damn i gave him a lesson by telling him to shove i!

Very clever FISKER_Q, however, you entirely missed the point. gabe has reasons for his capitalisations, qUiCkSiLvEr doesnt stand for anything as far as i know, or can conceive.

It's more likely they didnt even charge the card twice.

You have to call the credit card company and authorize the transaction. I've had to do it before for various online orders. It's not a big deal.

I do agree that it would be more serious if used his name. However should he be treated differently just because he prefers a nickname in his nickname?

Also why would you give up creditcard info to him anyways? He's a moderator, not an employee at valve. And that has nothing to do with his name.

What he means by arrangements is defined a couple of posts further up from that one.

He just means you have to use the support system to contact Valve so they know you'll be making multiple card payments.

I had this problem with regular HL. I bought a copy for my little sister on her account, then came home to find out that i couldn't purchase one for myself.

I got this email from a helpful lil philly named Jennifer. . .

Have you ever thought that the G in gabe was capitalized because it's the first letter of his first name, as well as the N which is representation of his last name Newell? GabeN is fine, the quicksilver way I don't trust.

I have no sense of humor or sarcasm.

yet your avatar is a dancing cow...:P

If there is a credit card problem, it will be rectified soon, Valve isn't completely stupid and the problem will be fixed. If it doesn't, they stand to lose a great deal of profits.

Holy crap valve is extremelly smart. Of course they won't let you buy mulitple copies on the same credit card unless you contact them, know why? Because people could fraud and buy 100 copies if they wanted to, do tons of messed up shit. So that makes sense, how do you go about contact them though? Email? I plan on buying 2 more accounts once HL2 is released, and yes, all under the same credit card, so wtf.
