cubemap problem i think?

i cant figure out why this prop and one other of the same kind keep having reflections like a cubemap would make them but there arnt any cubemaps near them, i want to get rid of this . any ideas?

All reflective materials have a default sky reflection. Put a cubemap near the prop and buildcubemaps to make it reflect the room.
 
not having a cubemap makes it reflect the skybox? but having one only makes it reflect the room?

For some reason you can't have reflective surfaces reflect nothing in Source. So by default it reflects skybox. Env_cubemaps tell the engine to make new images to reflect.
 
is there a reason that building the cubemaps only works half of the time?
 
you don't need to restart your map after buildcubemaps. at least, i've never had to...
 
its an issue ive had often. especially when you have a lot of cubemaps. for some reason after you do buildcubemaps...about 15-20% of them will reflect the skybox (checked with impulse 81). i thought the problem was on my end but i eventually figured out that restarting the map after buildcubemaps was the fix....or maybe im the only one who experiences this problem...
 
I have always recommended reloading the map after building the cubemaps.
