I want to convert my beautiful multiples of 2 .tga pictures into something I can use in a Half-life 2 mod.

So I drag them into vtex:

"Can't load p4lib.dll."----without quotes

Any brain surgeons out there what can help me figure this out? I'm now going on day three in my fruitless attempts to make a single custom texture in Source.

first add "-engine ep1" to youre SDK launch options, set youre sdk to "half-life 2"
then put a texture in "sourcesdk_content/hl2/materials/test/test.tga" folder

drag this to:
"sourcesdk/bin/ep1/vtex.exe"

it copys it to:
"half-life2/materials/test/test.vtf"

copy an existing .vmt and rename it to test.vmt and put it in the same folder as test.vtf ("half-life2/materials/test/...")
here's what should be in it:

"LightmappedGeneric"
"$basetexture" "test/test"

if its still give's you the "Can't load p4lib.dll." you should add -nop4 to something (dont know what though) to avoid the perforce intergration valve uses.
Hope it helps

Thank you for responding. I didn't know I had to do the -engine ep1 line for this or even in order to mod Half-life 2 and not episode 2, like I've probably been doing.

At the part when I drag my test.tga into vtext it now says

inputfile: C:location/location/location/materials/test/test
problem figuring out outputdir for C:location/location/location/materials/test/test
press any key to continue

Suffice to say, it didn't work. I have another problem now. I've found a number of those .vtm files you wanted me to find but modifying any of them seems to be out of the question:

error saving VMT texture: Access to the path "C:location\location\anygiven.vmt" is denied
