Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Video , A Source Engine game [ Amazing ]

dling now - hope this doesnt take long i'm hungry and late for work

edit omgomgomg thats is so awesome i want to cry - fantastic!!!: D

edit2 just watched it again - the bit with the ice, the knife kill at the end, the fire hands!!!!!!!!

Gabe got uglier.

But yeah, that looks like an amazing game.

But the part where he freezes the ground makes me want a game built entirely around mischeviously using the physics engine.

Release date = Summer 2006
i wonder if there a multiplayer mode

the bit where the guy gets knifed in the back looks awesome. it's not like most games where you just see the knife swing - it actually goes in him :)

yeah i was expecting just a knife slash attacked too, didn't expect him to grab the guy.

Mwahaha flamey hands! Mwaha gremlin thrown through the window!

Looks fecking class.

"Ubisoft also tells us that Dark Messiah will include a fully realized, class-based multiplayer mode for up to 32 players, from deathmatch to an intriguing "Evolution" mode in which the player will gain experience and new equipment across dynamic online campaigns."

OMG OMG !
That rox !

Is it just me, or is Gabe really, really fat?

Edit - HDR looks hawt.

This is so ****ing amazing. I can't wait for this. At the end where you pull a silent kill, omfg that looks great. Definitely buying this.

Alright, I'm actually concerned about Gabe's weight at this point. I'd prefer it if he didn't die before HL3 comes out.

Oh, and that video's cool.

Wow, I didn't even see this one coming. Nice surprise. From what I saw, it shows tons of promise. The ice slipping part was awesome. Thumbs up from me! :)

i liked were the guy put some ice and made him slip...that was funny...and now i want to make somebody slip :|

great game (so far) cant wait for the release

I don't think it was just funny, I think it was a great interaction between player and enviroment to create an object to destroy an enemy, and it might be something we'll see more often in games.

If you ask me, it's a whole new ellement of gameplay that HL2 did extremely well, and it looks like this game will do it great.

When I saw that part of the clip, I was just stunned.

Obviously some people aren't reading into this as deeply as me

I am. It's true...finding a level of interaction with the enviroment and players *not that silly..step in lava, lose health/die...* but I mean slipping on ice? That's just awesome. This game looks like it is going to be very well made...I can't wait to play it.

Being the pessimistic twat I am I'm going out on the limb and saying this tech demo isn't going to be an accurate reflection of the final game.

"First, as a warrior, we ran headlong into the fray. We shield-bashed an orc, then kicked him off of the cliff where he plummeted to the rocks below. Next, on the platform, we fought sword-to-sword against another orc, sparks flying. Using a special combat move we ripped away his shield. Then we grabbed his neck, plunged a sword into his gut, and kicked the body off of our sword and over the edge of the platform. By now, more orcs had rushed toward us to investigate the noise. We ran inside the room, which was filled with barrels and a side of beef hanging from the ceiling. As we fought tooth and nail with these guys, barrels fell over and smashed or rolled around the room. At one point we kicked the side of beef and sent it hurtling toward our opponents. It was as vicious of a fight as you could get: the camera even goes to slow motion for spectacular killing blows."

2 mins , GABE IN THE VIDEO !!!

The link is dead :(

Nvm, Found it else where...
God damn, this looks cool...

Freezing the floor so enemies can slip on it...
the manipulation thing...
The knife kill looked pretty spiffy too.

I don't see whats so nice about the slipping on the floor thing, its just a variation of ye olde "plant a mine the enemy steps on it and it blows up" trick.

It's how it can be used :).
You could make an enemy slip and fall then kill him. Make him fall off a tall building and die.

If this is just one of the things they have done, I can imagine that they have many other cool abilites.

" The swordplay looked rather excellent and gory. As you battle with orcs, you can put your sword through their bodies and then you press your boot into their chest to help you pull out the blade. "

" There are over 40 different weapons and the usual Might and Magic assortment of bestiary to hack to pieces. Spanning the total length of the world are 12 distinct areas, all of which are interconnected. "

" the game's open and large environments didn't match Half-Life 2 in terms of art direction. But the support of high-dynamic-range lighting (one of the visual features Valve is pimping for their Lost Coast and Aftermath Half-Life 2 episodes) did make for some amazingly photo-realistic environments. "

" We were shown a sequence where and enemy was frozen while standing on a rope bridge. The player the proceeded to chop down the bridge supports and watch the frozen enemy fall and then break into a million pieces upon impact with a rocky bottom. "

wow...

AWESOMENESS

That could be the best first-person melee system ever made. This game has just jumped from nowhere right to the top of my 'urgent purchase' list.

It seems HL2 has a competitor... :E

I'm confused how the "ice slip" thing will work correctly. First off, when an enemy slips on it, he is given the ragdoll property. Assuming that the ice thing can be used anywhere, the enemy might just fall on his ass or something. So if the monster just falls on his ass and not a 50ft cliff, (let's say he slips on it, in a house or something) the ragdoll is irreversible. To make the monster get back up again, the developer would have to figure out so kind of method to animate him to stand back up again.

The same goes for that gnome thing, where the player grabbed the gnome with "magic" or something and put him into a ragdoll position. Obviously you can't simply animate him back to life, thus there's no reason to throw him out the window. It seems like these are all just insta-kill moves.

Ragdolls were meant to be used on objects / characters that won't animate after the point they are given ragdolls, so I'm confuzzled about how these things will work out properly.

I'm sure they could fiddle it so the enemies can stand up again. Have several quick, prerecorded "standing up" animations which flex out fast so you don't notice the join :)

they could have different ones for lying on front and one for lying on back, etc

Pesmerga, ever played Psi-Ops, they do just that thing, revive the ragdolls with an animation, sure it doesn't always look good but it works.

from the ragdoll, a animation can be used to make the person stand again, its been used in sooo many games, where have you been?!!?

psi ops, bloodrayne 2, spiderman 2 to name a few

This game is really looking cool.

Only problem with it looks like loading... Source still has fairly small environments and the M&M games never had much load time.
