Im starting a new mod called "Desolation"(name may be changed), and ALL possible jobs are open. From mapper, to texture artist, to advertising, and to voice actors. Any and all help with production is needed. I will be leading the overall style and design of the mod, and the story as well.

Here's a quick setup of the setting:
"The near future. A terrible apocolypse has transformed the Earth into a vast infertal desert, dotted by poisoned salt-lakes, and large craters. The human population has dwindled to less than one million, and people are scattered all across the globe in small settlements. The only resource left is that of oil, used to fuel power for their homes, or to continue the nomadic exsistance that many have taken to. These wanderers are as bandits, traveling the world in search of plunder, and more oil."
You play a wanderer, who travels the roads on his motorcycle. Trouble ensues when you stop for rest at a small town, and it is attacked...

I'll reveal more of the story if you join the team, as i dont want to give it all away just now.

As I said before, all help will be taken on this project. But please, be serious about this, I plan on finishing even if it takes me a long time.

Email me at: [email protected] for more details or questions!

You will shortly be inundated with posts. I will try to sumarise them for you:
You must be an active member of the mod team to get others to join
You should include all details of the mod

You can't seriously expect that a quality team of people will do your bidding unless you have something to offer in return. If you're actually doing something, then its different, but it would seem from your post that you do jack shit.

I would be involved in every part of the development. I wouldnt just sit around commanding people to do whatever i want. I'd like to be more of a member than the dictator of everything :p. I want this to be a fun experience for everyone. I dont have very many mapping or coding skills, but I'd do whatever i could to help.

Well, it's good that you say that, but it's still not good enough. You're going to have to learn more about the process of developing a game before you can organize your own team. You may certainly join another team, but likely any team you make at this point will not finish a game.

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER.

Question. The only apocalypse capable of bringing Earth's population that low, in conjunction with desert, poisoned salt-lakes, and large craters, would be a nuclear war. But that would mean that like 90% of the world is radioactive. Plus, without plants, our oxygen supply would be not good. No animals for food. Etc. In short, the planet would be a few hundred years from dying, and the human race even faster than that. Having < 1 million to start with, you'd be losing thousands more people a year than you could possibly birth. How the hell would we be able to process oil?

perhaps the presence of alien technologies, them trying to terraform, but for some reason stopping mid-way. All of these things could be worked out eventually. I think the main factor in whether or not it is a fun game or not is the playability. Of course we want to give some background, but total explanation isnt required. Half Life 2 isnt COMPLETELY explained to the player immediately, and there's alot of stuff that is left up to speculation. I wouldnt want the full background to be revealed to the player immediately at the beginning og the game, but reveal all that's relevant over time.

The near future... a place without fossil fuel.

No, it doesn't need to be completely explained to the player, but you need to know the entire plot. Your project won't go anywhere if you don't have the story worked out. Say that in this thread you end up getting a few mappers and modelers. How are they going to know what to make? There's no story for them to read. There's no art. They won't know the style or what it is at all that they're supposed to be going for.

Here is a repost of an edited story, and some info about the gameplay.

"The near future. A great catastrophy has turned the earth into a desert wasteland. Water is scarce, and the human population has dwindled to less than half a million. People have chosen to live in small settelments, or travel the remaining highways in search of more oil to fuel their vehicles. Water has now become the sparse commodity, and oil the plentiful one. Your travel the roads aimlessly, searching for your purpose, and only stopping to rest, and refuel your motorcycle."

This is just a rough description in which the game would be set. This mod would be a total conversion. The game will be slightly open-ended, somewhat like that of the Elder Scrolls series, or Grand Theft Auto, but not to that great of an extent. In the game, you can go from town along the highways on your motorcycle, which you have to refuel every now and then.

You can only be one character, but there could possibly be a weapon customization system, and different body-armor options.

I'm currently looking for any and all help I can get on this mod. Please only join if you intend to help! This'll require every type of developer out there; from story editers, to modelers, to concept artists, to advertisers. ALL sorts of help will be accepted.

If you have any questions, or want to join, email me at: [email protected]

Don't kid yourself. This mod was dead before it began.

Source isn't built very well to accomodate open-ended worlds.

Story != story synopsis.
