Diablo II

When I first went through Barbarian Highlands of Act V it the scenery really blew me away. All the stuff littered about the environment and fighting alongside the barbs was awesome for the time.

ummm dont you guys realize how old the game is?
it was outstanding when it was released
i personally played it all the time
now you'd have to pay me to play

How old it is, is not a factor.

Actually it's a massive factor. Massive enough that it's far too many years late to play it.

Uh, why? You don't play old entertainment?

I regularly play all sorts of old games... Starcraft, Perfect Dark and Goldeneye, Half Life 1, Tetris, all my SNES games.

You certainly are missing out if you don't play games just because they are old.

Are you kidding me? You don't think it's a bit late to dive into the multiplayer Diablo II scene? Come on now.. That's like going to play the original Unreal Tournament online, it's all people who have been playing forever.

Yeah I'd love to go pay $3 for Diablo II and hop online today. Great idea.

Well it is a massive factor but not a massive factor.

If you use to play Diablo 2 and now you've stopped it is a masive factor. You know the in's and out's of the game. You've played it so much your absolutely bored with it.
For a new person coming in it really dosn't matter because hes never played it before. He will find that same addiction you once had.

Else Starcraft wouldn't be one of the most played RTS games now would it? It's either Sc or Wc3 that is the most played online RTS game.

And btw D2 still gets around 40 - 80,000 players at once AVERAGE. Infact right now at midnight for me it has 42,000 some people on.

If you never played Diablo II before; I see no logical reason to dismiss it now. Its a pretty fun game, and I'm absolultey sure there is a huge multiplayer community still active as Starcraft's is just as good as ever.

Hey man, if you want to dismiss games because they are a couple of years old, go ahead. But don't you find that to be a wee bit ignorant and completely arbitrary? Games are games-- just because they are old it doesn't make them not worth playing. Unless you're all about the graphics or you want to compare it to new, similar games. Although I still see no reason to dismiss them even if there are similar games out with improved graphics if the original was pretty good too.

You say $3 as if its a bad thing.

Oh, and Starcraft is so miles and miles better than Warcraft III could ever dream of becoming. Although this is my opinion, it still stands for lots of gamers.

I also love how you are acting like we are trying to convert you to some horrible cult. Nobody is making you play Diablo II, dude, calm down.

It doesn't matter how old it is. It just matters how much fun you can have with it. This applies for any game.

So you would strongly recommend somebody not buy half life 1 just because its old, and its too late to dive into the multiplayer scene because people have been playing forever?

Thats Xfire, how many koreans play xfire?
Plus its FIFA time!

Trust me I know that at peak points Starcraft is the game. It was only last summer when i'd come on and Starcraft would have 150,000 out of the 320,000 some people.

During Peak Points I know for a fact Starcraft gets higher than any other Blizzard Game.
On average whenever I go on Wc3 or Sc I see them at about 40 - 60 thousand players.

Absolutely. Single player? No.. Because that you can do on your own, and it's not with people who have been playing FOREVER.

We didn't even know if we'd be able to play Diablo II when it was in development because OF Y2K!!

Dreadlord: So wtf does that have to do with anything?

TC: I mean how many koreans use Xfire. Starcraft = Extrremely Big Game in Korea. Name a bigger game...maybe WoW but thats it.

Wow man, you're pretty dense if you actually think that. I don't generally judge people on their opinions on games, but I've never heard anyone say what you are saying now.

"Don't play multiplayer games if they are more than X years old."

Great advice

And Starcraft remains one of the best games ever, ever made. Ever :P

I liked D2 but it gets really repetative. Never played multiplayer but I played through all of the game on singleplayer. It was very addicting and pretty fun, but I got so bored of it after a while.

Probably none, I don't think anyone in the entire world plays xfire.

So you're going to go play.. soccer?

Really, starcraft beats both Warcraft 3, and WoW? You're full of crap.

Warcraft 3 has far more than that, as I showed you. Starcraft maybe.

Thanks, champ!

Go join a nice UT server. See how long you last. See how much fun it is to join a game 6+ years late.

There IS a difference between joining an FPS 6 years late and an RPG 6 years late... In one, skill is the major factor; in the other skill is hardly a factor.

WoW dosn't use Battle.net Smarty! Can I whisper WoW players? Can they whisper me? When Battle.net shows you how many people are on battle.net do they include the people on WoW? No they don't.

Warcraft 3 has far more than that, as I showed you. Starcraft maybe.
Right now Starcraft has 37 thousand players on it. Its midnight.
And no you didn't show me. You showed me based on Xfire which just shows me how many people on Xfire play Wc3 and Starcraft.

So you're going to go play.. soccer?
So? FIFA is huge. More people are going to be watching that. I mean they h ad 20,000 Koreans crammed into a building watching FIFA...they could have all been playing games!

Probably none, I don't think anyone in the entire world plays xfire.
Exactly so if your going to not include the Koreans from your tollings then I think I should be able to not include Americans from yours.

Go join a nice UT server. See how long you last. See how much fun it is to join a game 6+ years late.
Go on Diablo 2 and say your a noobie. There are plenty of nice people that will help show you the ropes when your a level 1 just coming into the game. With Starcraft. Play the campaign a bit, play a little bit online and you'll get better. Look at some replays of other people. Starcraft is a very easy game to get into but impossible to master.

So your reasoning is that anyone who buys old multiplayer games won't have fun because everyone else is automatically better than them, because obviously every. single. other. player. has been playing daily since the release date?

You don't even realize how this will not apply to Diablo II, which even if you have been playing since release, you will start new characters once and a while?

You also must not realize that lots of people are new to old games, because its not like places stop selling games two months after release date.

You also must not realize that this reasoning makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER?!

I've never heard such ridiculously ludacris reasoning for telling people not to get a game. Seriously, dude, you've topped them all. :upstare:

Also, who gives a shit which game is the #1? The fact remains that Starcraft is definately one of the most-played games to date. Starcraft was released in the late 90's sometime.

Also not to mention there is the entire UMS community on Starcraft. UMS maps are just completely fun and extremely easy to learn. So even if you couldn't manage the melee aspect your sure to manage to at least one of the incredible UMS maps. And since new maps are always coming out created by people... very easy to get into.

So? You said "Starcraft has more players than any other Blizzard game" which is 100% false, because WC3 and ESPECIALLY WoW have far more players. WoW has 6 million + so shut up about your battlenet.

Minerel said:

Yes I did, because it proves that a MINIMUM of that number of people play WC3. You retard.

My comment was towards the fact that you made no sense with a comment about FIFA.. I couldn't give a shit less what people are watching.

Minerel said:

That's great, so instead of just saying that in the first place, you made random comments about absolute crap, and defended the game's honor. Nicely done.

Ok what I ment to say was on battle.net. Sorry.

Yes I did, because it proves that a MINIMUM of that number of people play WC3. You retard.
And what does that have to do with comparing to Starcraft?

My comment was towards the fact that you made no sense with a comment about FIFA.. I couldn't give a shit less what people are watching.
More people watching FIFA less people playing games. It perfectly deals with gaming at this particular time.

What are you even talking about?
You were comparing Starcraft and Wc3 based on Xfire. This could leave out Korea, Japan, etc.. So I say if your comparisions leave out them then my comparisions will leave out americans.

That's great, so instead of just saying that in the first place, you made random comments about absolute crap, and defended the game's honor. Nicely done.
No you just failed to put various things togeather. And if you are wondering what things? I'm talking about everything you were confused on minus the me forgetting to put "on battle.net".

Min: He's just ignorant. I wouldn't even worry about it anymore.

DreadLord: You do realize that unless you do PvP in D2 you aren't fighting other players but instead computer controlled monsters? If you go into a game that is just starting off you'll be surrounded by players who are level 1. Besides the type of character they chose, they have no advantage over you. Sure, maybe they know more about the game than you but that fact isn't going to make the game less enjoyable for you to play. If anything, as time goes by a game will have more and more patches released and should make the game more balanced and enjoyable (except maybe BF2! :P). So Dread, what do you consider the cut-off point for a game? 3 years? 4? I'm just curious as to when I should put down CS:S because hell, it's been over a year and before you know it the game will be 2 years old and I want to know when I should stop playing. ;)

Whenever Dreadlord enters a thread, a gigantic *woosh* sound can be heard from across the land.

He's right, it's a bad, bad time to get into D2 multiplayer. Even the lingo of the game is prohibitively weird for a beginner. The game is no longer played as it was intended to be played - now it's just lots of running, being run (*yawn*), and engaging in incredibly repetitive tasks to farm 1337 loot.

Now, if you manage to find a channel of likeminded people, or a group of friends, of course it can still be a lot of fun.

Sure, maybe they know more about the game than you but that fact isn't going to make the game less enjoyable for you to play.
No.... no. The ENTIRE POINT of multiplayer is human interaction. If the people you're playing with are on a completely different plane of 1337itude, it's just not going to be fun.

I'm just curious as to when I should put down CS:S because hell, it's been over a year and before you know it the game will be 2 years old and I want to know when I should stop playing.
Now that's just missing the entire point.

It's not like you cant play the game how it was ment to be played. It really isn't that hard. And you can also ask what stuff means. It really isn't that hard to ask people something.

So Narco you fully support not even trying a game after a certain amount of years?

On a less argumentative note, has anyone here or do you know anyone who's done the Pandemonium Quest from 1.11?

I remember back when I used to play I actually had the chance to fight the Uber Diablo after all the SOJs were sold. Was just me and another guy fighting him, god I can't even count how many times I had to run back and get my body. And in the end the other guy got the Anni and he just gave me something from the Tal Rasha set iirc. Meh. :P

Dreadlord takes very good points and twists them into extremist inflamatory BS. :) You guys have got to get over that and just smile and nod.

I'd try it at a good price, for sure. I DID try to get into D2 multiplayer late, after all. And it wasn't a good experience. D:

It really isn't that hard to ask people something.
*sigh*

It really shouldn't be, but the people on the "higher plane" of which I speak make it hard. n00bish ones just aren't treated kindly. :(

idk....ill go on d2 and say im noob....see what happens

I started playing D2 not too long ago. I have to say, it was a better game than I first thought it would be. Loved the music in Act I and V btw.
Can't wait to see how Diablo 3 turns out. :D

LOL. I thought that Hellgate: London was supposed to be like a D3 type project. D3 has about as much hope right now as Starcraft 2.

Prove me wrong, but I'm fairly sure Blizzard is working on D3 right now.

Hey I don't want to prove you wrong, I really hope they are. :)

Dizzing a game because its old is the worst excuse ever! Just yesterday i went to my friend house where he has all kinds of new games and a pwnage PC...but we played the old Sega genesis instead, with such games as Golden Axe and Truxton. We could have played new games at any time, but we didnt because we had so much fun playing bomberman.

Now, i might mistaken you from "old" as "classics". Talking about Outdated games from the 90s, you are in a half-life sequel site. Half Life is older then my friends brother, but that doesnt make it bad. I played Quake the other day, and soon after that i played through Quake 2 again just for fun.

Diablo2 has tons of players still paying, old and new. I myself sometimes join the normal games with my high level chars and help them out, just to watch the comunity stay and grow.
