Did ya know F.E.A.R. had an "alternate" ending? (spoilers)

Playing around with the FEAR sound files this afternoon, I started listening to a bunch of sound files that were never used in the final game - some of them are quite funny - conversations between Jin and Betters/Janikowski/Holiday that are quite amusing and reveal that these characters originally had somewhat bigger roles in the game. The best line is uttered by Jin when Janikowski says something nasty to your character and Jin replies, "You'll have to excuse him - he's a ****ing idiot."

But what was most interesting was the way the game origially ended. Instead of Alice Wade being killed by Fettel as in the actual game, he captures her but lets her live and it is her father who goes through Fettel's cutting/eating process to reveal the location of Alma, but Fettel doesn't kill him, he lets him live long enough to see Alice one last time before he dies. Fettel justifies this by saying that he wanted to show mercy to the old man before he died.

The final confrontation in the Vault is REALLY different! Mapes (who is still alive at this point) and Fettel gain access to the Vault to set Alma free. You do the same thing as in the final game - destroying the power core - but Fettel finds away to override what you've done and is able to open the Vault...

...and nothing happens!

No Alma emerges from the Vault and the computer announces that there are no life signs because Alma is really dead. Fettel asks how could this be because Harlan Wade's flesh told him that Alma was alve to which Mapes responds that Harlan was a "crazy old man who believed that Alma was still alive." At this point I assume you don't actually kill Fettel but leave him to die in the facility when it goes nuclear - it's not clear what happens to Mapes though it seems that he makes it out alive.

Kind of interesting, eh?

Wow that is interesting, I'm assuming they changed it to allow for more room to move with the story. I though tAlice Wade died pretty pointlessly after you spent all that time rescuing her.

EXACTLY! That was my main objection to the game - her death was totally unnecessary.

Yeah but there woulda been no room for her on the chopper anyway, what with a decomposing teen corpse boarding in mid-air :P

Bullshit, they all deserved to die.

Wow thats really cool. That would actually make a really cool ending as it is. Although a bit of a cope out when it comes to Alma. Still, awesome.

Too bad this isn't an alternate ending you can see played out ... kinda like the "deleted scenes" section on a DVD. That would be REALLY cool.

That ending is a helluva lot better than what they came out with, sounds like basically they decided the game needs sequels to cash-in on the license so they alter the ending to drag the series out...

Bleh

Condemned needs a sequel....please...not FEAR!

F.E.A.R is getting a sequel but so is Condemned. Condemned 2 is coming out around the same time the movie is. YES a movie and game same time. I forgot the exact plan but i believe it goes like this... The game sets up for the movie or movie for game something a long those lines. I think i posted about it a while ago not sure.

I wonder was that ending before or after Fettle was merged with another character.
