Discs not completing installation - stops at CD1

I cant install hl2 on my new computer.(it is a good one)

first i put disk 1 of 5 in and select the features and continue.
After clicking next at the Ready to install app it vanishes and installs steam but thats all.
it seems to close so i cant continue with the other disks.
i installed it on my old computer no problem and i dont think the disk is scratched so i have no idea whats going on.


need more info?

how about installing steam and downloading HL2 with you key?

I hate steam.

I got steam installed and thats it.
so i thought i install day of defeat source to see if i could play my brother and it worked we used the same dod to but i didnt need a cd key on anything so it worked

Im using the same game that i installed on my other computer and it worked.
I wonder if its something wrong with the computer i got it yesterday but ive installed heaps of games but thi is strange.

after the steam installs i look at the processes and setup.exe is there?

i dont know but i aint downloading yet.

make sure to get the latest steam installer from http://steampowered.com/download/SteamInstall.exe

see if your firewall blocks steam maybe or DEP (data execution protection is on).

Are you choosing a custom install excluding Counter Strike Source? If so, try a standard installation.
