I have to admit I do. Sit back, put my view somewhere suitable, and watch the scenary go by. Gives me a little bit of time to relax.
What about you?

Yeah, they were all right. It was basically "here's your train ride." Showing the Razor trains, gunships and Striders being deployed from within really gave the game an excellent sense of pace. 'Going into the source' as it were. That said, I'd have rather have seen the Gunship bays up close and personal.

When I first played that part... ooh my god I was amazed. It was the most stunning part I've ever seen. That just sums up Valves excellency

Yea it was pretty neat

They great the first few times...bit boring all the others, unless I'm playing it through properly (like I will when Epi Two is realeased) I normally noclip through.

I thought it was sweet, showed you what goes on in Citadel all the time. Kind of depressing the first time though, I was like shiite this is what I'm up against, but later it explodes so it's all good. I still want to fight a crab synth though.

I thought they were fantastic and looked forward to them on each subsequent replay.

However at some point a bug was introduced where the very first part of the first pod ride is always really jerky for me, with the screen spasming up and down and looking ridiculous. It fixes itself upon the next load, but still...I went from thinking of it as 'that cool atmosphere-building section' to 'that bugged section'.

I enjoyed the ride...seeing everything working on the inside, I became a little tense during the ride as well, seeing the Striders and Gunships flying by...Me being completely helpless and all.

Definitely a great part of the game. GJ Valve.

i was waiting for the thing to dump me into a flock of striders the whole time lol.

and yes it was pretty cool.

It's like the breathing room in 300, only... slightly freakier. (But with less blood).

Well, you're talking to a guy who thought the tram ride was the best part of HL1. So a big "yes", in other words. It never gets boring for me. I love the way it's set up--particularly the bit where you see one razor train going by, then you crane up to see another running on a higher track perpendicular to it. Masterful.

The ride was good, but proportionally, the amount of time spent in the citadel on foot should have been greater than it was. A lot of the stuff in the pod ride could just have easily turned up while you were on foot, and Valve have never (not even in Episode One) explored Citadel gameplay with conventional weapons. We never really got a chance to see a stable, functioning citadel up close.

edit: also, I feel we never got to see the more humanised places that surely must exist in the citadel. The entire place is just big cavernous spaces with pods and repair bays on the wall. Cool, but surely not all there is. Breen's office is one of the more interesting spaces in the place: an awesome office that is completely at odds with everything we've seen so far. In essence, the Citadel must be as big as Black Mesa was, yet we never get to see more than a few rooms and they themselves are all very similar. It's a space that it wouldn't have hurt to flesh out, have Gordon fight to the top of, rather than hitch a ride on the first moving carriage he could find.

Talking about Breen's office: I remember looking at the citadel for the first time in Episode One and thought to myself "His office isn't there now..."

They were great rides. Valve knows how to put on a show.

They were very well done. Though I have to admit that I got in the wrong one the first time around. I wasn't sure what to do and I used the pod as a little test. I got in, thought "this is cool". Then I saw where I was going. Oh shit.

That's exactly what I did. Was cool though.

I thought the pod rides were brilliant (at least the first time round). It gave you pretty much a grand tour of the place, and showed you what kind of power the rebels were up against.

And I agree with Kupoartist, it wouldve been very nice to do a bit more gameplay on foot. To see how ruthlessly efficient everything works in there, and maybe even new security systems or something new.

Unfortunately, we dont have it around anymore, but hopefully there will be that sense of scale somewhere in Episode 2 or 3.

it is relaxing, in an ominouse, creepy sort of way. id rather just go back to ravenholm and blow up zombies, but, well, look at my name.:P

Im the average person: "It was boring"

Pwns first time, by the 5th time it sorta gets boring...

I've never gone into the wrong one, because I forget there IS a wrong one, and jump into the right one.

Damnit, I'm going to have to make a big ol' sticky note that tells me to jump in the wrong pod....

Sounds like I'm trying to get with a hooker.

I got into the right one purely by chance on my first play through. Then, some time later, I was sleepwalking through a replay of the level and stepped into the wrong one. A bit of a jolt, to be sure.

Wait, I don't get this thread. Everyone here has played the game and has ridden in the pod.

Yes...and now we're sharing and discussing our thoughts on the pod journeys.

They were nice, then it zapped the g gun and I freaked out. I was like wtf I cant use this against combine there's nothing to throw!! Then I shot an elite with it. OOHHHH cool, I wonder if I can grab the big ball thingys or screens. It is fun to shut breen up when he is trying to talk to you.

I disagree.
I find it intresting listening to Breen's dialouge.

"Well, Dr. Freeman, under other circumstances I like to think we might have been able to work together-zzzzttt!!!"

Nope! Sorry Breen!

I would've said yes.It would've been interesting - imagine if Breen and Freeman decided to work together :O

He makes that offer at the top of the Citadel. " I'll send them on their way and then we can talk openly".

But as usual, the "illusion of free choice" is just that; an illusion.

If I created my own modded half life 2 game, the citedal would be a medieval castle and breen's office would be made of cardboard sitting in the middle of the fortress and combines would teleport into the castle via a weird teleportation pad at the end of the inside of the castle and your only gun would be the super grav gun,and once all the combines are down, you have to grab Breen fast with the grav gun and force him to do whatever you want. :borg:

No,scratch that - if I made my own half life 2 game,I wouldn't play it because it'd be too good :P
