I read on wikipedia that Dr Kleiner's name was mentioned in the Half-Life 1 game guide. Where about was he mentioned in the game?

Nowhere.

Edit: He's mentioned in the Decay.

Dr Kleiner is in the HL manual, in Gordon's letter informing him that he has been hired by Black Mesa. He is mentioned as having been Gordon's former professor at MIT and he recommended Gordon for the position of research associate at Anomalous Materials. The letter is also forwarded to Dr Kleiner.

In the Blue Shift manual Barney's letter informing him of his reassignment to the Anomalous Materials laboratories is also forwarded to Dr Kleiner.

In the HL1 PS2 manual Dr Green's letter informing her of the alteration to the test is forwarded to Dr Kleiner.

Judging from this Dr Kleiner seems to have held the position as head of Anomalous Materials or something similar.

That is awesome. I didn't know all that...makes me have a lil' more respect for the goofy old guy!

Also, the Kleiner model who you find in the Lambda core who is holding a shotgun really reminds me of HL2 where Kleiner also is holding a shotgun just after Nova Prospekt.

That's because Kleiner with the shotgun in Anticitizen One is a reference to the walter in the Lambda Core.

I believe she's also scheduled to test the Mark IV HEV with him?
Memory is a little fuzzy though, my friend owned the PS2 game, and manual, not me.

*checks timetable*
You're almost correct. He's scheduled to supervise her "anomalous materials handling", but Green has scribbled a note over it saying that it's been rescheduled for June.

Really? I'm pretty certain a HEV 4 prototype was mentioned somewhere in the PS2 manual :/

There is HEV 5 Prototype mentioned in the Hazard Course schedule.

Cross was testing the HEV Mark V, being supervised by Keller, not by Kleiner.

Kleiner also appeared in Popular Scientist while he still had proper hair.

And he was renowned as being one of the heads of his field.
