I've been wondering about how they will solve the problem with closing doors in ppl face in Halflife 2. I mean if you stand behind a door and an enemy tries to kick it open will you slide away or fall? And if you close a door in somebodys face will it hit him or will it get stuck halfway like in HL1?

I hardly see the player "falling". CHances are youll "slide" off.
 
yes, slide.. and about slamming the doors in someones face, see tunnels, were gordon tries to shut the door but those fliyng cutting thingies that i can't remember the name open the door before it shuts...
 
I think the door will fly back and kill the guy trying to open it. But that's just a guess.
 
Killing someone by slamming a door against him? I don't think so. The slide idea sounds well
 
or maybe that person would be knocked off!!
 
so we could make what we want with his/hers body!!! like a human shild!! and that person would wake up 'cause of the pain of the shot and would scream seeing himself/herself in such a situation!!!
 
i think it will have the same sort of effect that the Antlion Guard did on Gordon at the end of Bugbait. where he flys back, but doesnt fall down

Do you think the doors will have 3D knobs? will there be saloon style doors in HL2? Im going to email Gabe and ask him!!

Lets block a door with dead bodies and see how many live bodies it takes to open.
 
Gordon has weight (85 kg atm) and its effect is calculated in the world. So it will be more of a question if the soldier has the strength to push open the door rather than Gordon sliding away. But I assume he slides away, yet in a realistic movement instead of a warping effect as seen in HL1. Valve said that you will really 'feel' when you walk on uneven ground, so i assume sliding will be realistic too.

But you won't fall, that's for sure, they left falling out of the game. Design decision, I hope they made the right choice.
 
How in the name of Michael Caine d'you know how much Freeman weighs?
 
Gordon will probably just take a little damage and be pushed depending on how hard the door hits him.

Because I hear voices from above *spooky sound*, actually from Gabe (or some valve employee) stated that Gordon plus his HEV weighs 85 kg atm, they're still experimenting with different weights.

It's in the Valve info thread. At one point in development this is the weight they said they'd given Gordon in the game. They hadn't finalized his exact weight yet, so in the final game it might be a little different than that.
 
Gabe said they experimented with things like the player being able to be knocked off his feet but currently they decided against it so it is a design decision, not a technical limitation. That was earlyish on in the Valve thread so you may not remember it.
 
In Jedi Outcast, you were able to get knocked off your feet. They could do the same thing in Half-Life 2. Damn-by the time Half-life 2 is out, I'll be in High School. Good thing the people in High School are nice.

Yeah, but you could play that in 3rd person which makes things less disorienting.
Interesting about the weight though... You could change it and have a Gabe mod:p No offense to the guy though, wonderful as he is.
