Surely we all know this one of the main characters in Blue Shift .
But why did he never showed up in HL2 ?

Because he isnt a main character in the half life universe, blue shift was developed by gearbox, not valve. And, like Marc laidlaw said about shepard and race x, they wont be appearing in an official game

Because he didn't.

:) I don't think there's any real reason for his absence.

Why did Barney showed up then ?

Because the security guards in half life 1 were all nicknamed barney's, thats why half life 2 has the character Barney, who we assume is from blue shift.

No , he's not just Barney , he's Barney CALHOUN ( at least everyone think so ) .

yeah. all of the rest are brothers. :D

Well, maybe Rosenberg will be in an expansion ( if there will be one ) ?

Yes, he is called Calhoun, its in raising the bar, but i believe valve jsut took advantage of it, and, its not mentioned in the game.

Theres an expansion in the works fear not, about Alyx and dog would you believe it :P

Nah , forget it ...nevermind

Heh ok, although i have a feelign your thinking that we will be playing as alyx in half life 3? or something liek that, but like you said it doesnt matter :)

Why is that Valve doesn't want to use the characters created by Gearbox? Was there an argument between those two companies at some point? I don't see why Valve couldn't use the characters created by Gearbox. I mean, Gearbox used the aliens, the scientists, the g-man, etc in Op4-- all created by Valve...

I will not talk about the meaning of the game or clear up stuff that has yet to be clarified or revealed; it only makes sense to do this in the context of the games themselves. Stuff that hasn't been revealed is that way because we're not ready to reveal it. Everything that's there is there for a reason; ditto for everything that isn't there. I can only say, "Stay tuned."

Race-X was Gearbox's creation, and likely would only be continued if Gearbox were to do more episodes in the HL universe. There were gameplay modes they wanted to explore, and their designers wanted to make some new monsters; Race-X was a great way for them to do this. The universe is expansive enough to allow this without conflicting with the core story. Remember, these are games first and foremost, and the story really is there to open up and extend (rather than shut down) possibilities for fun gameplay. We did coordinate overarching story elements with Gearbox, but left a lot of the details for them to explore and invent according to what worked for their design process. As for whether Shepherd was put on ice before or after the Nihilanth's demise, it's really hard to say, since Gordon's time in Xen and in the Nihilanth's chamber may not be mapped directly against the timeline of events at Black Mesa.

The gman mumbles sound fairly close to what I remember him saying...strangely enough, I can't find the script for that exchange.

Thanks for taking such an interest in the story. Before HL1 came out, it was tough to convince outsiders that FPS players would care at all about having any kind of story in their game. Obviously, given the wide range of reactions, they care quite a bit. The debate over HL2's content is much more varied.

Yours,
Marc Laidlaw

Thats all there is too it i guess

i'd like to see shepard return, considering (as far as im aware) earth doesnt actually have any military left, would be nice to throw him into the melee and see how his attitude to the world and freeman may be affected by the combines almost complete rule of earth, bar city 17 i presume and with no government, military to take orders from, he effectively would become a free agent/mercenary

Shephard would be a great combine . He would be unstoppable ... well maybe only by Gordon Freeman . I think Shepard can make a great Elite or even higher . I can only imagine...

You start the game very similiar to Gordons . The Gman sends you to city 17 , but you're not saved by Calhoun ( in the trainstation ) and you get to nova prospect ....

How's my imagination ?

P.S. Thanks for that letter , Samon .

dr rosenberg could be awesome to play in the first person!
you could attack people by hitting them with books filled with calculus equations and then use a magnetic flux discharge pen to zap them into his lab for further study.

I still think that a Shephard mod where he gets to fight in the 7 Hours War would be the best...

Then I would like to know how he died... The only one that can compare to Gordon Freeman is Adrian Shepard. And I hope that Valve will include him in some way.
