a game that was supposed to be done like 8 years ago, now wants 5000 users to be present on some silly site to give a sliver of info?

its either a hoax... or completely and utterly pathetic.
if its true I imagine DFN might be something like Daikatana = pretty full of itself.

They are probably expecting people to view Duke Nukem 3d as some kind of legend, and thinking then that people will believe the same of DNF.

I wonder.. George Broussard said DNF was going to blow everyone away recently (well, last time I checked 3DR's forums).. wonder if they'll be using the Unreal Engine 3.0? Of course, that would mean it'd be another.. 2 or so years before we see the game, but, why not after all this time? :)

I just went to 3DRealm's forums. I guess it was nice to see that George Broussard participating in several of the threads over there. I also noticed he mentioned that a 2 ghz processor will be on the low end of things. Yikes. He also said that the rendering engine is done, and they are working on the actual game now.

They have an Unreal engine license, therefore they are entitled to the latest build of the Unreal Engine.

That's kinda funny. What have they been doing for the past seven years then. The game engine must be quite a killer then for having been in development for 7-8 years.

Depends on what type of license they have. Personally I don't think they can spend much more time on this game before they run out of money.

The only thing thats stops me from thinking this game is nonexistent is the thought that somone has put money and time into such a stupid hoax.

Yeah, but they apparently rewrote the entire rendering engine. They are just keeping the editors and the netcode and that is it. But that seems like a waste of an engine to me. From reading some of the posts that George Broussard wrote, there is no way DNF is going to be able to touch Half-life 2 or even Doom 3 for that matter.
 
Why hasn't it been canned yet? This is insanity - it'll probably make quite a lot of money, but it must've been playing catch-up with new games' features for God only knows how long. I can't see it being a particularly well-formed game if that's the case.
I really couldn't care about this game though. Although I do wish it was still on the original Unreal engine. <Sighs> I quite hope it never gets released.
 
DNF started development when my sister was in elementary school. She is now almost done with college. That is insane.
