The white line is pretty uninteresting, it is a number code.

"WARNING

I think City-17 was inspired by top secret city in Russia that was recently admitted by the gov't of it's existence... Here is a brief history:

"Khariton was given the job of finding a location for the atomic bomb research laboratories. He chose the small town of Sarov, 300 miles east of Moscow. The town was known for its famous monastery, home of Saint Sarov. The last Tsar visited the monastery before the birth of his last child and asked for an heir. His son was born months later.

When the research work was moved to Sarov, the town disappeared from the maps and was renamed Arzamas-16. To help hide places, the Soviets would name places after a nearby town and a post office box. Arzamas was a town northeast of Sarov.

Kurchatov and the scientists set up their offices inside the monks' rooms in the monastery. New facilities were built for laboratories, and housing was built for the scientists and other workers. A large house was built for Kurchatov only a few hundred yards from his reactor lab. Barbed wire fences and guards kept the city secure, and no one was allowed out without escort. The main street was renamed "Beria."

Khariton was director of Arzamas-16 until he retired in 1992. He lived there until his death."

im not sure if its an easter egg or not, but...
at one point in the game Barney Yells "THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!", when assaulted by a group of combine soldiers.... i swear they are paying homage to the Mac game "marathon", where you had generic
allies called "bobs", that seem to be the inspiration behind barney, who where often heard to yell the same thing. is not what barney said, its the way he said it.

Dunno if this has been caught yet, but you know the first animated menu's.....well the one for AntiCitizen One and Follow Freeman, the one with the burning buildings and stuff..... I THINK in the far building, in teh top windows that have no glass that G-Man is standing in the window :borg: I think you have to wait like 45 seconds and then he pops up in the right window, stands there and then moves to teh otehr window :E

Hard to say for sure its him, because you can't see for sure, but it acts like him :rolling:

This was investigated on another forum, and it was settled that it's a female Rebel, not G-Man. (Some guy located the name of that map, loaded it up in Single (I think) and flew there using cheats.)

I really don't mind the non-Easter Egg items of interest.

I've enjoyed the screen shots of things that I didn't get a real close look at, considering the amount of detail they put into the game, I really appreciate people pointing things out.

I do like the picture. A lot of the placement of sentimental items in the game puts you on edge in an environment where the macabre are to be expected, but not rampantly overloading your senses, this kind of set-up is especially appropriate.

The doll in the playground, the missing boot, the Chinese food containers, the pictures and Persian carpets--It's different from playing just a gore-filled, desensitizing FPS like Doom or Quake.

It's part of what makes HL2 original.

OH, and btw, you incorrectly used "your." Yes, yes I am a grammar nazi.

Go flame :flame: me at my shameless plug: http://ministryofmind.blogspot.com

But do realize I started this thread, and I have tits, so I teh pwnz0rs joo. :imu:

Owhh my......uhhhh, um.........

*runs away screaming from the scary evil woman*

Sorry, didn't mean to offend, nor did I know you created the thread  Flame the n00b :dork:

Remember the Overwatch cop in Point Insertion that tells you to pick up the can? Anybody tried tossing the can at HIM? (just press fire in his direction). He chases you down and beats you. LOL

Ha, yeah, and that was the first thing I did, only because I couldn't understand what he was saying at first...so I thought I'd just throw it at him and see what happens.

There were a few things I discovered, I have no idea if they were covered.

I found that you can replace the annoying Dr. Breen on the TV with a random NPC using cheats to make npcs. found his little box, where he sits and talks on the TV (usually located near the far away mini citadels he sits in there repeating the same crap. I blew his brains all over the wall then spawned a vortigaunt and he was on the big screen staring at me slightly confused lol.

Then I found a G-Man you can only see in cheat, a Red Ribbon Day you go and find the area with the monitor barney looks at. I've never seen him walk in front of it, but I noclipped to him standing there, he looked at me silently as I shot him in the face. Believe me I felt so much better :D

Also the Can he tells you to throw in the trash on Point Insertion. I chucked it into the window then had him chase me all the way to fence beating the crap outta me with the shock stick :p

This came to my attention...

"WARNING

The thought of combine soldiers dying because of faulty masks (or mask filter things) makes me chuckle :)

The white line is pretty uninteresting, it is a number code.

WARNING
USE OF THIS COMPONENT MAY
LEAD TO THE UNTIMELY DEATH
OF THE USER ?? THE A???A(there may be a letter missing here)
???HTE ???????
234- 3?43 -34?- 222-34

This is exactly what it says from what I can distinguish definitely, can someone find this texture?.

Maybe it might saying

WARNING
USE OF THIS COMPONENT MAY
LEAD TO THE UNTIMELY DEATH
OF THE USER OF THE APPARATUS
BREAHTE OFFLEER
234- 3043 -340- 222-34

Offleer? what the heck does that mean?

leer

To look with a sidelong glance, indicative especially of sexual desire or sly and malicious intent.

or

a facial expression of contempt or scorn; the upper lip curls

it may be a mistranslation on my part but wouldnt that mean, leering at girls may kill you with this on or stopping the angry look on your face may kill you?

lol

Anyone have any clues on the last 3 words? It's racking my brain. :dork:

It's only in english because it's an american game, and also most of it's public understand english better than russian/polish/checkish etc etc
Also, new little odessa, Nova Prospekt, hello?

About the port 5, indeed it says "port" but in slavic letters. Ofcourse, "port" in russian doesn't mean "port" in english.

About Nova Prospekt - Nova means new, and Prospekt is Prospect spelt wrong.
Lets take a look at the definition of Prospect

"1. possibility of something happening soon: a chance or the likelihood that something will happen in the near future, especially something desirable
2. vision of future: something that is expected or certain to happen in the future, or a mental picture of this

Hi, I`m from Moscow and I can answer all the questions about Russian names in the game. There are several of them. First of all, in the first chapter when you`re running on the roofs, you can see the word on the top of the building, which is on the left side. It says Tsiment (in Russian letters, of course). It is written with a mistake, but the word means "cement".
The man, who said that the word "port' means in Russian not the same as in English was wrong. It means absolutely the same.
Also on the billboards in City17 is written in Russian letters - "Meierhold".
And finally, Nova is not the Russian word! It`s Czech word, I think. And in Russian "new" is "novyi". And prospekt is a big street like avenue, you were right.

About the G-Man appearing on that random TV with creepy music in Anticitizen One, here are some pics. It looks to me like he's standing in a teleporter almost... But for the most part, I haven't the slightest idea what he's doing.

Hey all. I think this is my first post, or one of my first posts here.

This is sort of an easter egg that so far nobody seems to have mentioned. When you have some team mates, keep pressing your use button on one of them. After pressing about 10+ times (sometimes a lot more), they start saying slightly strange things, like 'Sometimes I dream of cheese' or 'when this is all over...i'm gonna mate'. Sometimes another team mate will respond to them.

Give it a go, it's a good way to relieve some tension before a big battle :p

Missing 'X'

Don't forget the missing 'X' on the playground tic-tac-toe thingy. You find the missing X in the tenement apartment later, has anyone tried putting it back in or something?

Vorty

The Vortigaunt janitor in Station 17 at the beggining is wearing a mind control collar like the ones in HL1.
