Who knows what will be changed, I am SURE valve will make it look good.
That's what they are known for. :)

I don't understand? Say that again?? They fall over when barrels are thrown at them?

He is saying that barrels or other heavy objects should knock the enemy over or something...

I think I remember Valve saying something about what they did with this...

He's talking about how the enemies don't fall over when they're hit by heavy objects, they're just pushed back a little bit.

This is a bit silly to be honest but I doubt it will be 'fixed'. A shame.

Alot of little things like this that are brought up are brushed off as things that will be 'fixed'. If it was going to be changed it would be done already. The game is too close to release.

well half-life still had a few noticable flaws. Not to say it wasnt awesome

I don't know what gamestar is smoking but you can see clearly see combine falling over in the E3 vids. Hit with a mine, falls over. Hit with the buggy, falls over. Hit with a cabinet/table, falls over. Maybe they were playing HalfLife: Nerf Edition.

Yeah but that is becuase he was dead. If that's what you were saying... I dunno... :cheese:

So the problem is that there's no hit animation when an npc gets whacked with something but doesn't die? I don't know... I'd almost rather NOT see some generic "Ooo, my organs!" animation whenever an npc gets hit. How stupid would it look if a barrel rolls into a combine's legs and the hit animation is just their head jerking back? I'd rather keep the generic animations you see a thousand times to a minimum, they make everything seem so canned and repetitive.

Besides, from what we've seen it looks pretty hard to hit a combine WITHOUT them dying on you. You'd have to be pretty gentle with the manipulator to keep them from collapsing in a heap.

It would be annoying if they fell over and you'd have to wait about 3 seconds until they get up again.

Yeah if you saw in the e3 video, the combine were killed by whatever object had hit them so they fell over. But when they are shot or hit with something that doesnt kill them they basically just stand there and keep shooting at you. Hope they atleast include a small animation atleast when they get hit by an object. If they're hit by a barrel and dont die they should stumble back a little which gives you time to finish them off.

this discussion pertains more to barrels and large impacts... its a different issue hitscan has no actually mass hitting them (bullets) and impacts such as barrels and your enviorment do... so this is a seperate thread
It'd be exactly the same technology that would make both bullets and barrells have a physical effect on the enemies. Essentially the same disucssion.
