good article here from gamespot about the upcoming game, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

this screen shows what looks like a medic and engineer classes

"Splash Damage's Paul Wedgwood explains that the new game will expand on the objective-based gameplay of Wolfenstein by putting even more focus on capturing and holding territory. For instance, we were shown a zoomed-out, strategic view of one of the test maps that the developers are currently working on--the map itself was divided into four asymmetrical areas, and according to Wedgwood, the EDF and strogg would start on opposite sides of the map.

Whereas in Wolfenstein, one team would work together to complete stepwise objectives (like using a bomb to blow up a defensive wall, then infiltrate a barricaded office to retrieve stolen documents, then head to a drop zone) while the other team attempted to prevent them, in Quake Wars, players will also work together to complete objectives, but once they're successful, they'll also control the surrounding territory. Having control of the territory will give players a forward base of operations and let them resupply (and respawn if killed off) closer and closer to the enemy's base of operations."

this has me a bit worried as it seems they're kinda gravitating toward the BF2 hold the flag type of gameplay in favour of ET's objective dictated advancement gameplay ..but they seem to be incorporating a lot of features that will help with getting people to play together ..which is non-existant in BF2

ET:QW is easily my most anticipated shooter of 2006, it's everything I wanted BF2 to be (except the setting, I'm not all that fond of setting it during the Quake wars) it cant come out fast enough

I'll reserve judgemnet unless it actually is better than Battlefield - ie a 90% score average on metacritic - i won't touch it
people do play together in Battlefield - not nearly as much asthey could and should - but no other game ever has as much actual teamplay - the original Enemy Territory certainly had none

wasnt enemy territory horribly unbalanced though - one side always had a dominating advantage almost making the actual gameplay irrelevant as the outcome was almost pre decided?

no, that was just peeps who couldnt play effectively together

I played for years and sure there were a few maps that were harder than others to win for a particular side, but superior teamanship always turned the tide

teamplay only really comes about if you have people that want to teamplay, and there's not many of those in any game, unless you're in a clan, I don't see ET:QW being any different, but it looks like it could be an enjoyable escape from BF2

no, that was just peeps who couldnt play effectively together
but that was the overwhelming majority :P

the way one mod for hl2 did teamwork was incredible- cant remember what it was called because it wasnt good
edit: It was Plan of Attack - something about it promoted the most amazing teamwork in any game ever - players stuck together like glue
pity it sucked gameplay wise

found another ET:QW impressions article with more screens and details

nice - the graphics look amazing
and vehicle drops :O = very cool

i badly want to believe that those are ingame shots but i don't think they are - they seem too posed (barring the heli shot)

hopefully it'll work for ET:QW:

"... it (ET:QW) adopts an asymmetrical approach more like the Wolfenstein ET, with players representing the Earth's Global Defence Force striving to liberate areas split into distinct territories, starting in one area and trying to push the frontline past a sequence of objectives, using a range of weapons and vehicles that are utterly divorced from those of the alien would-be-conquistadors.

"This allows for a really varied range of tactics that encourage teamplay," says Wedgwood.

We're going to need NASA pcs to play this at a decent frame rate :/

It looks good, but i'm looking forward to RTCW's proper sequal more. RTCW > ET

I dont know ..I think since there's a split in the game worlds (et now centered around quake) I have a hunch they wouldnt recreate the mp from rtcw cuz it would comptete with ET:QW (I really really want to be wrong)

I hope not but I think they'll just remake doom with a ww2 setting and maybe tack on some half-assed mp

oh and my nasa built 7800gt is screaming to play this ;)

This game owns BF2........

in other word its the BF2 killer we been waiting for...

Hasn't a sequal to rtcw2 been announed - with the same ppl who did the multiplayer for the original? (I forget their name)

ET was always going in the direction of bigger maps, more ppl, more choas, less teamplay - QW seems a natural enough progression - and should be a blast :)

I'm waiting for RTCW2 in the hope of some tight and tense teambased clan gaming, though.

with id's track record lately with remaking their games almost exactly the same then there's a good chance you may get your wish (mine too)

cpt stern if your looking for teamwork why are you not playing in the frinedly on Sunday

on topic - it's a direct competitor to bf2 and EAs record with that game may weigh the stakes in favour of the newcomer - you cant alienate and annoy your base and expect no consequences

There is a ingame video. Looks exactly like that. Those are ingame shots its been confirmed.

Anyway im buying this 100%.

I just hope that it turns out be as good or even better as RTCW's Enemy Territory.
Quake 4 is a big dissapointment in my opinion.
Hopefully this wont be.

Simply awesome! I'll be watching this one closely.

I wonder how this'll run on me p.o.s 3 year old comp..:(

Is there any approx. release date?
GameSpot lists it as TBA.
*Hopes he'll have time to buy a new comp before it releases.:(*

Looking very nice indeed, RTCW was my 1st love in the 1st person shooter category on the pc, so im hoping for big things from this game.

This game looks awesome, and from what I heard won't take more to run than Doom 3 or Q4.

I am a huge fan of the Quake Series and cant wait for this title to be released!!! Its awesome!

The graphics looks great, especially the FPS_Chopper shot! Pwns Bf2 (im not saying Bf2 is bad, i love bf2)

The water looks great too! Is it 3D? Or is my eyes playing with me?

The game doesent even have bots. Guess it`ll die pretty quick. People dont think to much about it, but bot COUNTS!

The number of people that play with bots is very limited.

lol you'd be suprised ^
i'm willing to bet that at least half of all copies of th UT series are played in single player only

I'm well aware of that, but that's a game that had bots in it. Bots don't exactly drive game sales...

Both CS, Unreal Tournament, Battlefield +++ have a large single player community.

Lack of bots doesn't equate to lack of sales, or a premature death for a game.

this is one of the only games that has my authentically "hyped" :) soooo eagerly anticipating this
