I'm under the impression that convicted child molesters, abusers, whatnot are kept separate from "regular" inmates because they will regulate on his a$$ if they find out and get their hands on him. There was a prison riot some time ago and when the rioting inmates got the upper hand, they took the time to go to the child molesters' wing, break into their cells, and slaughter them. Not that this'll necessarily happen to this guy, but I don't think I'd complain too much if it did.
