Not to bring up a sticky subject or anything but: This vehicle model is from a Halo mod for Battlefield: Vietnam.

BFV = EA

Halo = Microsoft

Did you get permission? Whats the deal?

waedo is a DEV for the mod........ and its for regular bf42 at the moment...not bf:v

On thier web page, under their name at the top of the page it says "A Battlefield: Vietnam modificaton". Perhaps they should change it for the moment so people dont get confused.

In any case, that still dosent answer my question: how they're swinging this intelectual-property wise.

i was thinking the same thing, if you make HALO for BF, it's copying HALO, i don't think that's alowed. But you could try ;)

hmm... it looks alright. I tbh profer the halo version it looks a lot better and flows better. Some of the prportions on the vehicles you have made look wrong and off. It makes the car not look real. Basiclly you can tell straight away its a model. Its alright though, I supose halo is a proffesional game, so can't expect it to be as good as that anyway. Good job. But I think you could go back and change some things.

Actually, since they've been shown off on Truth & Reconcilliation, I think it's pretty much safe to assume Bungie are cool with it :)

Truth & Reconcilliation? Whats Truth & Reconcilliation?

He is the lead modeler for the Homefront mod. A HALO based mod for BF42.

Im pretty sure its HIS model that HE created.

wether its a ripoff of another game, i dont really care about that.....thats sort of thing happens every day....

there 10,000 mods for 1000 differant games that are based on games/movies ect ect.

Its fair use.

They probobly will be switching over to the newer engine....but at the moment its for BF42...

If you played bf42 and were part of that community you would have no reason to be confused.

i guess i didnt explain enough last night, since i was hurrying and just posted, but i did model it, ref pics are pretty bad, and i know that its missing a barrel connector (we fixed that) i also would would like to acknowlege that i didnt skin it, our brilliant skinner CPU64 skinned. As of right now Homefront is getting rdy to move to BFV so thats why things are changing on the site. i hope i have anwsered all your Questions.

It's the wrong shade of green, the overall look seems very dull, there are too many dark places on it (everything inside the vehicle, the sides below the green part, the wheels, etc), and (as Pendragon said) it feels too blocky.

When showing off a skin, make sure it is on 100% self illumination so it's really showing off the skin and not the render... and try to avoid really dark spots.

Here is the best picture I found of a Warthog (if it's not a good enough one I'll hop into Halo and take some screenshots after I get back):

yeah bungie has some stuff over us.... thier pro,and i have no clue on how to render like that, if you know how to can you enlighten me? :p

bungies new hog is also bump mapped ours isnt :(

It's nice, but why make a mod of a game that is out? Makes no sense. Why don't you just play the game?

good point.... but people always do these types of projects and always find out that no one plays them. Its like the golden eye mod on hl and max payne mods. Sigh..... its up to them what they make and most people just make mods for fun, its not always about been popular and uber l33t :D

Fair use covers small samples such as quotes in text or a sampled sound.

Here is the actual US fair use law .

It does not cover using an entire work for ones own means without premission of the origonal creator.

So to be perfectly honest, no, this mod is not fair use. However, since the creators seem at least apatetic about thier efforts they do have a measure of legitimacy.

If Bungie wanted to they could have this mod offline and non-existant by tomorrow morning, but given Bungies past behavior, it dosent seem likely.

Please do not interperit this as me comming down on Homefront, If they have the blessing of Bungie then all the power to them. I was simply wondering what the deal was.

From ductonius's link:
whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes

I doubt they'll be selling the mod.

to awnser your questions about why make a halo mod... its to aloow for 64 player actions, and do stuff u cant do in halo... (Fly pelicans, do space combat maps)

then i guess 75% of the mods for every game are illegal. :dork:

Not at all.

They are not "illegal" becaue there is no law against using copyrighted work, howerver, they may be committing copyright infringement and although it is not a good thing to be doing, it is not a criminal act.

Having said that, I do not beleive that 75% of mods infringe on copyrights. Having looked through many lists of mods I see only a sparse few who are based directly on pre-existing IP.

If you were trying to point out the prevalence of startup mods which infringe, then I agree with you. Every 10y old seems to think its ok if they start a Dragonball Z mod or whatever thier favorite show happens to be at the moment. Fortunatly, such mods rarely make it very far and leave the market open to those who are dedicated to non infringing material.

It is a good thing when most of the modders out there either make up thier own stuff or, like Homefront seem to have done, have thier work be at least "ok" with the owners.

Huzzah!
