Okay, so I've finally got to the first oblivion gate after days of getting sidetracked. But once I get into the tower thing I keep getting my arse kicked by a guy in huge armour. I'm only level 2, but I've been able to kill everything I've seen so far in the game. Help?

Need to go buy better weapons/armor. I did it at level 5 I think (now level 10).

I can take on 3 at once with my bow.

Adjust the difficulty slider to your level if you have to. The middle is perfect for me, anything below that is too easy, and above too hard. For the forst few days I was playing Oblivion I found it to be very hard. Then I noticed why, because the slider was at like 85%. It can take an hour to kill a rat at that level.

I did it, after many re-loads and much luck. At one point I ended up running backwards around a circular room shooting arrows at everything that was chasing me.

i did the first oblivion gate at lvl 1 >< it took a long time

I did it at Lvl 1 too. My slider was at around 33. I was nord/rogue, with 18 armor and 6 attack. Was quite a cinch cause I was expecting a huge boss at the end.

...he gave me 6 potions that hurts the painted trolls, although it was taking me 3-4 to kill one troll when i had to kill 4-5 more of the bastards. and the god damn things kept killing me in two hits >: |

While the quest in itself is great (I love the 'painted' level) those trolls are mighty strong. Haven't found a way to beat it yet.

I'm currently doing it at level 3, the armoured guys aren't up to much when facing my mace.

The guy gives you terpuntine poison. You go into your invontory, use it on your sword and attack. 2 per a troll. They die pretty easy for me then?

Yeah, on that quest I thought I was screwed because the trolls were so damn hard to take down. But then I found an easy way out...

Spoiler...

You can just jump over the rocks to get to the dead body. You would only have to fight like 2 of the trolls instead of all of them. When they attack you, you can just hop back over the rocks and the painter will help you fight.

Cheers Mutley

Where is that quest? 'cos i really want to do that one

It is in the town with the boarded up house. It has 2 little wooden bridges. Forgot name.

You talk to the guy at a large mansion type house near the water of a drunk begger. Thats all I know. Will look tomorrow in game, if you can't recognise it.

I had a frost enchanted knife at lvl 1 when I did it, so I owned it up without too many problems (though I didn't kill the final monsters, I just grabbed that special item thingy and closed the portal to get teleported back to town)

I did the first oblision gate quest at level 2 with fairly standard equipment, switching between the standard destruction and regeneration spells. Plus a combination of bow/arrow and sword/shield. Difficulty slider at middle.
