Not sure if this has been discussed already so dont flame me (no pun intended)

Getting set alight by a pyro is a pain in the arse so the first thing I immediatley did was too dive into the water expecting to be put out but still, I burnt to death (maybe I have been playing to much bioshock)

Anyone else think something should be implemented here?

I've never tried it, but from what I hear jumping in water works. Perhaps you need to fully cover yourself in it, you would still burn to death in real life too if you just jumped in waist-deep :P

Yeah you have to submerge, not just be in the water (IE being in the tunnels in 2fort is ineffective, you have to be able to actually dive under the surface to douse the flames) but it does work.

yea the water under the bridge on 2fort, Ill have to try again, it was probably due to me being on the brink of death.

Atleast I now know why I looked like a tool wading about in knee high water shouting medic :hmph:

Actually, the tunnel-water is deep enough - you just have to crouch in it. I'm pretty sure that's worked for me a few times.

Yeah, submersion ftw. I was really happy with it too. On 2fort I got lit up, so I figured, hell, why not, and not expecting it to work, went overboard only to be relieved. I love Valve.

I also thought about HL2 legacy, and never thought they would bother making this feature

Great Scot! - Would have been good to know this today... Got burnt so badly in 2forts

And I never ever thought to do that in TFC 2Fort. But then I never got set alight that often. This new Pyro must be far more effective than TFC's.

LOL!

But yeah, submersion all the way - which can be annoying on maps like Hydro because the water just isn't deep enough :(

I'm surprised people are surprised - it would be silly if jumping into water didn't put the flames out.

Well after having played BioShock, I fully expect every future shooter to feature realistic environmental effects similarly. HL2 did have plenty, as you all know. Electric current through bodies of water, airborne gas sparked by electricity or gunfire to cause a fire, etc. All were great.

They had electrified water in Half-Life as well. ;)

Scripted, I'm sure.

It's mainly because this feature did not exist in HL2, HL2LC and Ep1.

I oftenly set some random shit on fire and throw them in the coast, and then noticing how they were still burning.

Wait, what part had the airborne gas being ignited?
I would think that'd be very tricky to implement.

It's used in DM. There's a gas thing you can turn on, then you shoot into it and it makes flamethrower type flames.

I think he means in Ravenholme, where you first meet father grigori. You can turn on a propane tank, flip a switch, and it sparks and ignites a whole alley.

Oh yeah, true enough - I have noticed that before in Garry's Mod. I suppose they only bothered with it now because it has never had an impact on gameplay.

Fire underwater is as almost as stupid as sentries in water :hmph:

Yeah, Ravenholme comes to mind. I'm a big believer in environmental interaction in games.

And when the zombie is in the cage, you turn the gas on, and you can fire your gun at the cage, and it ignites it when it hits something metal.
