Hi guys,

Out of curiosity I wanted to collect stats for a mod from its opening day onward. I had to stop though after my computer borked and the data seemed less interesting as time went on. Nonetheless I thought it would have been a waste not to have ever shared what I collected. So below are graphs of Players (members), Servers, and Player Minutes per Month (PMM), in millions of minutes.

As you can see, TFF had a very impressive release that was decimated by the TF2 mod. The loss of Players was close to 51%. Although the tail-end of my graph showed an upswing, the most recent data point (not included) is well under 200 Players.

The good news was that server numbers stayed mostly constant, which I guess says something about the supply of servers, and that PMM actually went up a bit even after the release of TF2 beta. People were playing longer, even if there were less people playing. I think this also coincided with PlanetHalflife's TF2-FF feature but I'm not sure on that.

For consistency, I tried to collect my data-point at around 5pm PST (8pm EST) on each day. Therefore, I would not use this to judge European/Asian player-time.

I think doing this type of graphing and analysis is important so that mod developers can see player trends, whether they are reacting to patches/marketing, who are playing (by timezone), and whether another event/release is taking away players (the obvious case here was the TF2 beta).

Are there any other mods out there that you would like to see this done? I have my sights on some others including one I'm beta testing right now. I posted this on the FF forum, and I wanted to show you guys too (cause you're so cool:cool:).

Server farm hosters are very lazy and won't kill any servers until someone up high tells them it's a waste of bandwidth to have 5 empty FF servers.

Kinda like how HL2.net #1 gets no traffic since G-Dub put his one up, but still it sits there, empty, lifeless...

That's because it's ass cheap to host a server nowdays.

FF will remain as the primary TF competitive game.

Pwnt.

It's not really a bright idea, releasing a TF mod when a 'better' one is on the verge of release :(

Uhm, FF was already far in development before TF2 was announced.

Im not an FF gamer, nore do I car what happened to it but please get informed before you start your smart-ass talk.

Good to see that some people are still playing FF, its a shame it crashed for me every 10min.

FF is good but I HATE those nades, they can turn a battle youre almost winning into an absolute loss.

Well, some people love those grenades so much that they swear never to play TF2 despite there being a demoman.

Hopefully FF in the future will be able to differentiate itself from TFC so that more people will try it out.

Why I prefer tf2 to FF-
it's still quite long, but MUCH shorter loading times (I mean seriously, I wrote my first erotic novel in the time it took to load a game of FF)
No grenades
Better sense of humor
better graphics (though obviously this isn't important)

though despite all of this, FF is still a great mod, they worked hard at it, and I hope it's still successful despite the obvious setbacks of tf2 releasing at roughly the same time.

I think we all know he means when it was re-announced.
