"Though the service has been around a while, for any out of the loop you can access free online console gaming via UK-based Xlink Kai. The network functions on most current-gen machines including Xbox, PS2, PSP, Gamecube, and even the 360. A thread on the site states that the connection is now working (albeit buggy) with Perfect Dark Zero for the 360."

good idea for people like me who seldem played xboxlive when I was paying for it

Hmm, I suppose they don't offer any micro-transactions either?

A great alternative for the impulsive folks who will otherwise get nickel-and-dimed to death via the XBox Live Marketplace.

Good good news (for some)....

i guess this is literally one of those 'you get what you pay for' because this, xbconnect and the others are pretty much horrible.

i use xbconnect and its not bad at all...just a lot of weirdos and 10 year olds on it

Like Hungryduck mentioned, there's a free service called X-box Connect that uses your computer to fool the X-box into working over the internet. We started using this back in Halo 1 days... before X-box Live was even around.

Eugh. I remember using Xbox Connect at my friend's place, before I had my 'box. Trying to play Halo 1 was horrid. Absolutely horrid. None of the games were lag-free, and he had at least a 768k cable connection.

Honestly, for $8 a month (or less, if you buy the yearlong packages), Xbox Live is worth it.

Which reminds me, I still need to renew.
