...isn't an option. Well, not entirely. Joined in a small game with Glenn and had a blast destroying the other team over and over. Some other cool people joined and we joked around and chatted on mic. I called it a game after a few rounds and got 3 friend requests.

After doing work for a couple hours, I jump onto Hampshire Heavies, what used to be one of my favorite servers, and was great for meeting hilarous fortress goers and chatting it up. I start up a pretty funny conversation with some guys. Then a girl speaks through mic and they sexually harass her for like 5 minutes. Borderline verbal rape. I ignore their conversation the entire time until I hear, "She's just drawing attention to the fact that she's a girl for attention." This girl has said absolutely nothing since the start of the game. I say, "Yeah, most girls only have vaginas for the attention." It's pretty clear I'm making fun of the guys, but sure enough, I'm kicked for it.

I get back in and just talk tactics and what not, and eventually the annoying guys are kicked. I say something like, "Looks like I'm the last talking guy left."

YOU HAVE BEEN BANNED FOR ABUSE

Yeah... when it's not some guy being encouraged by all the noise to play retarded jingles, then it's often just abuse like in this case.

Meh, even the British servers which seem to be liked for their atmos and for 'banter', like HH and Doomy's, also seem to have a ****ing awful problem with verbal diarrhoea over the mic. Even on those, where there's a fair bit of tactics talk and shouted warnings/commands, the amount of pooooointless ****ing blathering between the regs is so goddamn tiresome. It's not like it's necessarily conducive to better gaming either; half the time they'll all sit around laughing and joking about Hobnobs on alltalk while a stacked ****ing team steamrolls to a dozen wins in a row. Fair enough it's just people getting together to have a laugh but I can't for the life of me understand how it can be fun, sometimes.

You don't need mics to be able to have a bit of urgency and seriousness in your gaming (things that make games more fraught and therefore enjoyable). It helps, and it helps give a server a bit of personality, but all too often on mic people seem inclined to think that absolutely anything they say is worth hearing. By all means, use mics, tell a couple of jokes now and then... but don't sit around laughing and having an endless 'olol I g0t u!!11' type conversation when our team is getting pissed on, or lecture me on what class to pick when your useless ****ing offense can't hold any ground because it's too distracted talking about pointless real life shit.
F*CK BEING FRIENDLY.

This is why you don't do anything when you see a girl getting molested on the train in Japan.

You just get ****ed over somehow.

In addition to what Vegeta said:

This is why you don't bring a gun to a gunfight. You bring nothing, so when the guy gets arrested, you don't get arrested for having a gun too.

"Oh hey, you stopped the bad guy who had a gun! Too bad you did the same thing he did, because now I have to put you in jail, buuuuuddy!"

Alltalk bugs me because most of what I say is tactical, and it turns into more of a chat room than TF2. I'm usually glad if more than two people are using mics constructively. They're public servers though, so you get the good with the bad.

I didn't do anything. I did mess with the guys and yeah, that was asking for a kick (even though the guys talked for like 7 minutes before anything happened to them). I did absolutely nothing for the ban.

Edit: And yeah, people who think they're hilarious because they play one soundfile over and over can go off and die.

Really? Mic spamming is annoying??? I had heard so much great things about it...

There's a pretty simple to use mute feature.

I nah prefer to just enter threads, make a sarcastic remark from one sentence then leave not particularly caring about what is actually in the thread.

Bourbon bitch, do you know it?

Oh noes, I made a mistake and you noticed. How ever will I escape the millions of perfect people on the internets that jump out when someone makes a spelling or grammar error to point out their obvious superiority.

I find you interesting. You appear to act with utter indifference to virtually everything on the forums and base that off of a philosiphy that I myself employ. Very interesting.

Dang, connecting with me. I'm pretty sure you are baiting me to end my fun and find something serious here but it's dang hard to tell anything on a forum. Whatever, I'll just take you off my list of people I must kill and add you to the neutral list for now.

No, the point was just boring so the thread took a tangent. See Lav's reply.

I fail to see how "Mic spam is annoying" makes for a very interesting conversation.

Whereas "One time people were mean to another person and I was banned" is riveting stuff.

It's like comparing on topic and dull oranges to off topic and dull apples. If you're going to derail something try and make it interesting.

I suppose the topic is why microphone conversation seems discouraged as a whole and why people hear anything and immediately cry mic spam, completely discouraging an interesting or fun community which used to be so at home in TF2.

Also:
Bananas.

/shrug

We still didn't miss the point. We just didn't care about it.

On topic:
I've noticed that most people don't talk on the 360, so I usually have to start conversations with the people I play with. We'll just talk about random stuff some of the time, but we mostly talk about tactics. A few times people have told me and the other people who are talking and enjoying ourselves to "SHUT THE F*** UP!!!" I find this extremely annoying.
