Oh no! The Black Mesa facility is overrun with aliens and I've got to escape! Oh, wait, holdon, I've got to go to my locker first to freshen up a bit.

....What did you think was amiss?

As noted in the first post, it's the only locker that was opened (left opened, anyway). Plus, his name starts with a G! G-Man! lol, I doubt there's any relation there.. but, that'd be pretty cool if there was

its even swinging open back and forth...
it has a flag inside and some ammo....???

Stuff like thats what i really loved about HL. Its the little stuff that counts.

cooooool i never saw that.
LOL imagine if the G-mans name was Guthrie.
"Your dinners ready Guthrie!!!"
"MUUUUM, im playing with my half-life dolls. Were having a tea party and Gordons got a cold."

Guthrie is the name of one of the developers.

I think you'll find in most games if there are ever any locker rooms they normally have only a few open. There isn't any thing to get suspicious or excited about.

I already made a thread about this months ago("guthrie - a hl2 character?"), and since guthrie is one of the developers, it's probably nothing.

John Guthrie - Game and Level Designer
Along with Steve Bond, John started the influential and popular Internet gaming site, "Quake Command." John was also the co-creator of Quake Airplane and Quake Kart and constructed many of the chambers and corridors in the Black Mesa Research Center.

Just an easter egg by the level designer

what happened to the easter Egg that was supposed to be in the HL2 videos?
Valve says that no-one has found it yet.

And just a note, Guthrie was the level maker of the labs, so he decided to make "his" locker open, because he wanted to feel special. :P
jk jk

I agree, What is the point in this thread? It's not even interesting...so what if one locker is open? This is one of the lamest threads....

ok i was just saying it was odd....
its nothing just weird that its just swinging open and the only one open...??

I thought the easter egg in the videos was that there was a toilet in nearly everyone of 'em.

*remembers Guthries locker* ah stoving in barneys head with the crowbar and pinching his weapon made sense after i opened that locker...*coughs* didnt do it after i found you got one free not long after...honestly...hehehehe

Why would one of the Administrator's men have a locker in a sector C test lab? :p

Here's a thought. Whilst on the tram, a list of names appear (Valve employees), when you go to the locker room, you'll find that most if not all of the names on the lockers are the names of Valve employees and employers

Since it has pistol ammo inside, I'd guess Guthrie is the security guard who everyone keeps killing to steal his gun.

or he was a janitor that was counting down the days unitil he went on his murderous rampage....

*whispers to Mechagodzilla* Was that sarcasm or have you really never heard of Barney?

Oh, no. "Barney" is a generic term for all the security guards.
A nickname, if you will.
None of them are actually named Barney, except for the guy from Blueshift.

Plus, who says it's not 'Barney Guthrie'? :)

They're all clones with the first name of "Barney"; they just have different last names. :p

It's true, no first names are ever specified, except for Barney Calhoun.
Hence, the need for a nickname.

There are lots of last names though. Calhoun's hazard course instructor is Miller, and the poor sap at the top of the tram appears to be Guthrie.

Otises seem to have the same problem. Lots of last names, but the first is never revealed, except on one guy. That would be Otis Laurey, by the way.

*Still hasn't played Blue Shift*

I suppose I should go buy it...it's only $12. But I think I'd have to reinstall HL back to its Sierra directory to play it. There should be an option in Steam...actually, Blue Shift should already be free on Steam. But, oh well.

And everyone now seems to have a first and last name, or at least a last name in HL2. So no more generic names, it seems. Except for nicknames like, "rebels," "scientists," "combine," etc.

You don't need to re-install HL1 to play blueshift. It's a standalone game, instead of an expansion.

For 12$, I'd say that you should definitely get it. It's shorter than Half-life, but still very fun.

You don't say ;)

I still think every single Barney is actually called Barney but with different last names. Isn't a Dr Newell mentioned in Decay? Oh and I just had an idea. What if The 'Administrator' sort of is the G-man...because it's a false identity for him. So when Valve said G-man is not the administrator....they were kinda right. Anyway, good find.
