The ending has been bugging me since I saw it. I noticed that after the G-Man finishes talking to you he says something like "this is where i get off". It looks like we are still on the train at the beginning of the game but it's all black, the only light is from when the doors open.
There seems to be some connection with the beginning and end because it's as if only a split second has passed since we are first on the train, but instead of fading away, the G-Man gets off the train.
I really don't know what to make of this so i thought i'd see if anyone had any similar ideas.

When the gman gets black and white you are teleporting. We are then in the "train". Its not the trainstation train, I also dont believe its the black mesa waggon. Its more some time travel train. Whatever.

Maybe a visual metaphor.

Things are never what they seem with the GMan.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and these images we see flash as the GMan speak... they mean something.

That is a pretty cool theory. HL1 begins and ends on a train. HL2 begins on one and the ending suggest a train (not a physical one) It seems like a metaphor of somekind.

yea it is really a cool theory...hmm maybe in the third hl we have to make something with a "metaphor" train or something like that`?!

yeah, that's what I thought when I first started the game again... About how much alike the two scenes are ( Into and Outro ). Probably the G-Mans toy time train or something. I know if I was the G-Man and I had a toy time train I would drag everyone onto it just to show it off.

well when you think about it, it could sorta make sense, in a metaphorical way. While you could drive a car to go from point A to point B, there's a number of routes you can take. If you were to go from point A to point B on a train, there is only 1 route to take ( train is on rails).
This ties in with the gman, as he seems to know not only your final destination, but also what route you take.

Just occured to me, if it is some kind of "time train" getting off at different stops from one point to another could mean getting off in different times....interestingly if you got off at the end of the train line you could witness the destruction of the universe....the reason it is a train is because time is a straight line, you can go forward in time or backward in time and that's all (as 5part said, it's is on rails)......all this is theory of course.

Also, if you watch the backrgound closely in the beginning, as g-man is talking to you, it shifts from the BMRF test chamber to the inside of the Citadel.

Perhaps indicating where you came from, and where you're going at the end of HL3? I mean, we don't *know* that the citadel we saw in the intro is the same one in city 17. It could be one of those ones through the portal, with the slug-like combine aliens.
