Game Not Running Smoothly Plz Help

hey guys i need ur help. i run the game at 2.0 ghz, 512 mb, and 128 mb ati radeon 9800pro and the game doesnt run smoothly. I played around wit the ingame settings. i even put the vid settings on the recommended settings for my system and it still doesnt run smoothly. i also messed around wit the ati settings on my computer. at first i had problems running the game and now it doesnt run smoothly. i first noticed it not playin the game but on the valve screen. it was spikin and shakin a bit. when i started a new game where gman was talkin it was spikin a bit and when i started movin freeman the same thing. i dont know what else to do.

run a defrag on your harddrive. . .download adaware personal SE and get rid of all that spyware...go here for some helpful optimization tips.

also download and install the new ati catalyst 4.12s. they are beta, but run HL2 the best. (can't find the link, i'm sure someone else knows.) and make sure you XP SP2

ok thx for ur reply cuz i see people only viewin my thread and not help a person in need. im surprised i have only one reply. so i did defrag the hd already. nuttin changed . did i have to reinstal the game b4 or after the defrag. i do have xp sp2. so whats left is the ati catalyst and the adware which im pretty it wont make a difference either but ill try thx for ur help. ill reply when it doesnt work again.

You may want to consider another 512 of RAM. People with only 512 have been complaining of stuttering and the like.

Ok, what is "2.0 GHz" Tell me what kind of CPU you have, and I'll help you out.

Are you guys missing something? There are huge threads on this forum http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=51480 and steams forums http://www.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=176237 with hundreds and hundreds of people getting this same problem.

Its a monster bug, Valve know about it and all we can do is wait.

its 2.0 ghz pent 4 512 mb ddr . i upgraded vid card, memory and computer is from dell. and no the reason it spikes cuz its a dell computer.

your system specs are great it should be running smooth so I understand your plight. I would suggest defrag. Mine works great but it has crashed a couple of times.
