Games that could need a sequel

In the Psychonauts thread someone wondered whether there'd be a sequel. Chances are, sadly, that there won't be.
But what incredible yet obscure/risk-taking games could deserve a sequel, but will probably never get it?

Grim Fandango: Absolutely incredible in every single way - a sequel set within Grim's portrayal of the Land of the Dead would be superb.

Giants: Citizen Kabuto: This game had some incredible ideas and a onderful story. It would have been interesting to see if they could/should have taken it any further.

No-One Lives Forever: Not exactly obscure, but another game in the series would be fantastic. I always felt that NOLF 2 wasn't quite up to the same class of awesome that the first was, and I think a blending of the two could make for a fabulous third game.

Max Payne needs more games. 2 is not enough.

Full Throttle - The cancellation of the sequel was an incredibly sad day for gaming.

Anachronox needs a sequel, as does Beyond Good And Evil.

I ask you, why make adventure games that end with obvious cliff hangers if you have no intention of making the sequel?

Oh god I hate LucasArts.
"Hey everyone! We're gonna cut down on Star Wars games and go back to what we did better than everyone else! We were pioneers at adventure games and almost sealed its coffin when we stopped, but no more! We'll make you LOADS of sequels to classic adventure games! Oh it's the greatest revival ever!"
And then a few months later...
"Actually, we figured that we can get a LOT of money from Star Wars games and we're not so sure about adventure games. I mean, we might make loads, but "might" just isn't good enough. F*ck the lot of you and f*ck gaming in general!"

Deus Ex-While I did enjoy Deus Ex 2 (though not as much as DX1), this game needs one more sequel to satisfy my tastes. I always saw it as a trilogy.
The Warriors-The game practically serves as a prequel to the movie and details the movie as well, why not a sequel with Swan leading the gang? Hell yeah.
Manhunt-This game's mad underrated and would be quite awesome with a sequel. A new character perhaps? Or the original one, gone crazy from the things he had to do in the first one.
Max Payne-Another game series that should be a trilogy.
Xenosaga-Yes, I know Part 3 is currently in the making, but I want them to go with their original idea of making 6 games. With the unfortunate sales of the 2nd one, it's not going to happen.
Indigo Prophecy-More plz. Though, if you're going to get really metaphysical, make sure to subtly ease us into it. Just don't make it pop out of a box to us.
Planescape-Do I really need to say why?

EDIT: I agree with Xune, Anachronox needs a sequel.

One. more. Jedi Knight game.

Starcraft(duh?)
Rune
Aliens vs Predator(2 was awesome, a 3rd would totally own)
Starsiege Tribes(Pleaaaaaaaase?)

I second Grim Fandango, Full Throttle and NOLF 2 sequels

Psychonauts needs a sequel. And i'd like to see another Vampire:Masquerades FPS/RPG done right. Bloodlines was really good, but damn did they screw up with the quality of it. Eck.

I thought DX2 was rubbish. A mockery of the original - if it had been on its own, it wouldn't have been as bad, granted, but it wasn'tand it pissed all over almost everything Deus Ex had established. If they'd ever consider making a 3rd (and I'd welcome it, within reason) they ought to go more with the intelligence DX1 had.

No game needs a sequal, if it's not long enough to tell the whole story in the first game, the game shouldn't be made..except for fighting games and the final fantasy series (with the exception of X-2 and the FF7 sequal...stupid squarenix).

Why not? What about the game ends with irresolution? For example HL does not lead perfectly logically into HL2, but because they are separate games, the series can get away with it. Yet still, there is a linked, over-arching story-line within an established (albeit changing) universe.

If one game wants to do something slightly different than the original where the two ideas aren't necessarily altogether cohesive, but still share intrinsic similarities, then why not have the same characters?

What about if a game can be enhanced by technical advancements or new ideas to be implemented to further the enjoyment of or involvement in the gameplay? Why not add to a series?

If a fantastic gaming universe has been crafted, why not have other stories taking place within it? Why not explore the potential of that world?

Why are the FF games exempt from this sweeping statement of yours?

You win the stupid award.

It's kinda frustrating to wait for the rest of the story. I mean HL2 was not a true sequal (Valve didn't have to make it based on the ending of HL1). I like episodes though (you know the episodes for HL2) because you don't have to wait 6 years for the rest of the story.

Most FF games are not sequals of each other because most of them tell a completely different story in different times on different worlds. Except for X-2 and this FF7 bullshit. It's good for the fanboys but not for your average gamer.

And I'm using the word sequal as in continuing a story, not continuing a game based on the same concept. That's called a Series. For example..Silent Hill...Silent hill 1 and 2 are completely different while Silent hill 1 and 3 are sequals as are 2 and 4 (vagely). Therefore the entire silent hill games could be called a Series. Same with the FF games, they are a series and not sequals to each other.

More Marathon is required. Bungie should just quit HALO and go back to their roots; back when their level design didn't suck ass; but that will never happen :(

What about cases where it was originally an NES game (not many of the current "average" gamers would have played it)?

For example, FF3 is being remade in 3D (and with an upgraded battle system) on the DS... is that ok?

Oh ya, that's awesome!! I wish they could remake FF3 for like the PS3 or something.

somebody should make a sequal to medal of honor cuz we havent had one those yet ...or any ww2 in general ..lots and lots of ww2 games

STARCRAFT FOR CHRISTS SAKE
JUST MAKE IT ALREAY BLIZZARD

And wasn't a poor mans Mario 64 ....

I'd like a sequal to Killer 7. It's rare that a game can shock, entertain, and feel so new at the same time.

I totally agree on that one. But they started on Diablo 3..so it's gonna be like 6 to 10 years before they ever even think of starting starcraft 2.

Mother. ****ing. Agreed.

Project Eden - Yes, I would like a sequel to this game. Although I heard that Core worked on it after Project Eden got released, but due to poor sales they cancelled it. Never going to happen I guess.

Freespace - This would be like God's gift, but same as Project Eden, I doubt a third game will ever be made.

Unreal – YES GOD! And please, not as floptastic like Unreal 2 were.

Although I hope they continue to make Silent Hill games, I hope they never reveal the true reason behind the demons....or if they do, make the story so complex, it will take you at least 5 times through the game before you vagely understand it.

Id like to see another indigo prophecy, I really enjoyed that game

X-Com needs a new sequel, it could be based off the Silent Storm engine.
If I don't get a real X-Com sequel soon I'm gonna kill somebody with my Etheral and Sectoid friends!

Me too! Something like the original, new engine, revamped beautiful graphics with the SAME level design. Just like it should be.

Then they can make Hell on Earth with a new level design.

Max Payne as already mentioned.
Starcraft2 same as above... (they have started work on Diablo 3??!?)
the Fallout Series.
and how about a new System Shock game eh? :D

Was thinking the same thing :D

Tribes Vengeance. Loved this game from start to finish but sadly, it ended in an uber cliff hanger. Want some resolution kthxbi.

System shock and Starcraft go without saying. ARTCTURAS MENSK!

Samon, System Shock is getting that "spiritual" sequel from the same guys who did it, BioShock, isn't it?
That's nice <3

Mario Sunshine
Mario Sunshine
Mario Sunshine

&

Zone Of The Enders

Syndicate.

Carrier Command.

Tie Fighter,X-wing Alliance and Mechwarrior 5 woild be great

MechWarrior 5 would be great if it was more like MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries(The final edition or w/e, titanium) that gives you tons of randomly generated quests AND let's you keep playing forever..
I hated it in MW1 when I struggled so hard to get my ultra coolz0r team and then the game suddenly ended after the final mission ;_;

A second vote for Giants: Citizen Kabuto.

I'd also like to see a sequel to Commandos 2 and Jedi Outcast.
