"Howdy! Ya'll interested in a nerdy geeky theoretical physicist with a history of disobidience against authority to join your highly trained, super technological, vast interdimensional invasion armies? Bidding starts at the low low price of $100!"

The combine don't care about Freeman, cause they don't know what he did. Breen knew, and most humans knew, but maybe the g-man didn't contact Breen, but went straight to the combine, who didn't care one iota. The resistance though, they cared.

@Samon; Yeah, that's what I was referring to, but not wanting to offend anyone I didn't say it was fact. People can really get cranky over that little word around here I've noticed...

Oh shut up, I'm serious. The Kliener thing seems a bit more farfetched. Otherwise someone unknown is pulling Gordon away (the Combine would probably just bid). We don't know what the Vorts are capable of and they certainly like Gordon.

I'm pretty sure they do. "That man I saw, I'm all but certain it was....Gordon Freeman." Breen was informing the Advisor and I certainly doubt he'd shoot off some name. They knew all about him, and at the end, when Breen says "Its me you should be concerned about..." They were worried about Gordon, clearly. Plus, the Advisor gets a nice good look at him whilst on the hologram.

When I saw this thread title I assumed this would link to another Gman YTMND.

And for those of you who might worry that GMan is going over the edge, just remember:

He IS the edge.

Goddamn it, I got spoiled by this thread's title!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm mad like hell right now!

(And I'm not coming back to these forums before April 24!)

Well, i'm losing control now that they delayed it till may... :borg: I'm not interested in aftermath anymore. Atleast not now..

Yeeees... but that's after they supposedly made a bid on him.
The combine probably didn't care, what could one man do, right?

That one man managed to:

Survive Black Mesa
Fight his way through Xen and destroy the Nihilanth
Return to Earth, stir trouble and then escape both the city and the entire CP unit
Make connect with Black Mesa survivors
Survive Ravenholm
Tear his way up the coast, knocking Combine outposts offline as he went
Infiltrate Nova Prospekt and neutralize their newly built local teleporter
Incite rebellion and return to the city.
Shutdown several Combine barricades, the suppressor, hand the Nexus over to the rebels and push the Combine back to the base of the Citadel.
Worm his way into the heart of the Citadel, becoming a seemingly unstoppable force where you'd assume the Combine to be at their best.
Come face to face with Breen, then manage to escape and pursue Breen to the dark fusion reactor, climb his way up the spire ripping the Combine machinery to pieces and then singlehandidly managing to fend off two gunships as well as crippling the teleporter and putting the reactor into a state of meltdown.

Damn that one ****ing man.

So why didnt they make a bid? Unless Gman didn want to work for them. Since they where on Xen :P

They weren't on Xen.
And whats more, the majority of all those things happened whilst Gordon was on an assignment, therefore they couldn't have made a bid.

Well no, they weren't on Xen i guess, but still, they could have gotten there in half life 2? I thought someone said that. Or did they just jumo straight from there own dimension to ours?

Maybe they did. If the g-man is losing control then he mightened have been able to deliver.

Well what my real question is, how could the combine have been outbid?
If gman simply didnt want to aid them. Hece, he has a grudge against the combine for eliminating the gmans employers and trying to take control over xen, who now should be acceseble now that Nihilath is gone.

That should have been the ending for HL2.

G-Man: Congratulations Mr. Freeman, you managed to do quite a lot in such a short time, but I'm afraid I have another job for you. Are latest bidder simply wants you to get rid of a little......infestation. I'm sure you'll have no problem dealing with them, you have been working with them for some time now.

You know I have read through this thread and it looks like people are trying to, "outbid" for Gordon's contract. But what would you want to bid with?! I mean do combine have money? Does the bidder want more power? Also what does the person want in return for Gordon's contract? You should be asking those questions. I think the combine leader bought Gordon's contract even though Gordon refused to and escaped. Then when he tried to destroy the Combine he almost killed himself which the G-MAN can't have because he's a great weapon to lose. He's also the item people are bidding for to. ;) So the G-MAN saves gordon and Alyx seeing as they are 2 both great weapons against the Combine. Kinda like Terminator 3 when John Connor and his wife meet as fate lol. Then probably the G-MAN says, "Even though the Combine have have bought your contract, I will not let that happen.

The Combine will make humans extinct. But we'll see about that." And then he probably teleports you on the ground where dog is. In the new PCGamer a picture shows dog bowing to Alyx while she thanks it. Thats what it looks like to me and there is no Citadel in the picture only City 17. So I guess dog, after the G-MAN teleports you to the ground, takes both of you out of harms way. Then Alyx thanks dog for saving them. Good theory?

Actually the "rubble" scene has been discussed before. The general concensus is that this happens later in the game, consider the rubble appears to be rock and not the blue metal the citadel is made of.

As far as the combine's bid, I'm sure they could spare a few planets to borrow Freeman for a few days.

No.

The Gman has control over your offers, and therefore if he decides not to lend you out to the Combine, you aren't helping the Combine. The gman loses control over Gordon, and you start to do your own thing.
And the Citadel still stands in that pic, you just can't see it. The Citadel is standing throughout Episode 1, until the end where it explodes and destroys City 17. Also, we've already seen screens where your in the Citadel.

So at the end of the game, Gordon gets raped by a headcrab?? :( I don't remember that...

Rizzo89 said:

I think he's talking about the ending of Half Life 2, where Lamarr runs across screen. Lamarr is debeaked, completely harmless, etc. so Gordon would be fine.

Hehe okey. I think it was a joke for those who watched the hole credits.

Like the thread implys, maybe it's Kliener opening up some sort of gate to Gordon's stasis? And Lamarr just...ran into it?

In some screenshots, we can see the Combine apparently "working with" Gordon to destroy an Antlion Guard. What if perhaps the Combine have indeed hired Gordon out now that they have seen what he is capable of.

Although it would bring up the unsavoury topics of shooting rebels and why you are keeping Alyx alive.

Disregard all I just said.

Quessies:

1) What do you mean by "bid"? Who bids what who?

2) What was Gmans job that he offered at the end of HL1?

well, even in hl2 the combine will fight the antlions. there are a couple of places i remember "unleashing" the power of the antlion agaisnt the combine (not with the smelly-mushy-pheropods, but by say, turning off the ground slammers near a combine checkpoint).
So its my guess that the screenshot just shows a 3 way fight, gordon vs combine vs antties.

Yes, but its been announced that the Combine are still your enemy, and countless screenshots show Gordon and the rebels in battle with Combine soldiers.

Hence the disregard part of what I said. :P I realised how wrong I was after I typed it.

I think they would have known. For one, Freeman was the one who launched the satellite that allowed the portal storms to commence and the Combine a quick takeover of Earth. Besides, Breen would have told them, considering the part of HL2 where you teleported into Breen's office and... well, "... Gordon Freeman!"

Considering the massive manhunt after that, Breen had to have a reason to hunt Freeman down, wouldn't he? Considering the scale of the events, I'm sure Breen would have told the Combine Advisor.

The vortigaunts are under the sway of the Gman too, right? Maybe they have their own little revolution and Gordon gets set free in the process. That would set up a nice little plot for episode 2 now, wouldn't it?

We don't know. All the Vorts say is "We serve the same mystery". We can't draw conclusions from this.

I think it was said somewhere that the Vorts would play a vital role in a future Ep.
