Gnome question

I need this answered befoire i attempt it

Can you leave the gnome in the room with alyx where she gets revived by vorts and it will stay there while traversing the antlion tunnels? Also can i leave it anywhere in the game, and come back anytime to collect it or does it disappear?

it stays in any area you revisit, or it would actually be challenging rather than simply time consuming.

When you go off to get the car, take it with you. I made the mistake of leaving it with Alyx, and couldn't get back into the room.

I left it with Alyx and made sure to pull it through the door before it slammed shut.

Why do we need a Gnome anyways? I left him under the shelf in the first shack where he belongs.....

There are three places you can safely leave the gnome,
- Next to Alyx while you do the antlion tunnels and get the extract
- The bit where Alyx uses the sniper gun while you go get the car, just put it next to the door the Alyx and the Vortigaunt will come out of and quickly get it before they come through and the door closes.
- Next to the mechanic while you go and take care of the auto-gun.
