Going to get a new card for HL2? Might wanna read this first:

Nowhere could I find "half-life" in the text.
Why should I read this first?

Oh, and why, for the love of god, do you put a list of all the things in your computer in your signature? Its not like it helps someone, nor is it funny.

Interesting article. It sums up what the differences are between nvidia and ati.
A good read for anyone willing to spend over 200€ on their next graphic purchase.

jist:
ati has remained the same since the 9700pro, good architecture, using a lot of pipelines and gaining performance by using average precision in calculations, making 2.0 shaders renderable. Only in the next generation will we see a different approach.
nvidia has made a mistake with its FX series, using less pipelines but using higher precision in calculations, resulting in slightly better looking frames at a much slower rate, wich was good for graphic professionals, but bad for gaming enthusiasts. They fixed the problem with their latest generation (6600/6800), but the 6800 is hard to get a hold of because it has such a big GPU (18mm), wich gives a lot of fabrication errors - lots of GPU's don't make it to the market because of it. But they're very good cards, if you can succeed in getting one.
Also, nvidia is better with linux, but ati has a forum where their engineers hang out.
And neither are using the pcx interface to it's fullest.

Because it doesn't have anything to do WITH Half-Life. It talks about video cards and how nVidia is doing with their latest generation of cards. Just read what the guy above me said. The reason we put our hardware in our signature is so that whenever we have a technical problem, we don't have to go running everywhere trying to figure out how fast this is, how many of that we have, blah blah blah. It makes it easier to say "I'm having a problem, specs in signature." than to say "I'm having a problem, I've got a Pentium 4 3.2C GHz, 1024 megs of RAM, oh wait, lemme see what video card I have, oh it's an nVidia whooseawhatsit."

Give the guy a break, he hasn't posted it to offend you in any way, so why are you flaming him?

Oh, and why, for the love of god, why do you people still bitch about it? YOU CAN TURN OFF SIGNATURES. Stop trying to be an ass, its not funny.

I think he'll post what ever the **** he likes in his signature. You seem to think because you have cooking instructions it's helpful and important so you can abuse his. No. it isn't.

Why don't you stfu.

why not write it down on a piece of paper..?

it's handy, and if some people on this forum dont have particularly brilliant machines...then believe it or not you can arouse jelousy,, which is why Calvius probably responded in the way he did, but hey yeh.. if you cant find an intresting sig, wack your PC details down instead. :/ .

back on topic,.. intresting article. that

Great article - no bias towards one or the other. And not to shallow either. One of the first attempts to write seriously about the next generation of chips as well (that I have read with that amount of information anyway). Thumbs up!

cool thanks for that. fun to read: nvidia good, ati lazy

There have been alot of threads on performance of video cards...thought some of you would appreciate the un-biased nature of the article. Might help some of you make the right purchase too....hardware is not cheap.

because it helps some people who have the same setup who might have slowdown issues or whatever...plus it lets people know what computer i have worked hard for.

It helped me. I have been an alcoholic for 5 years. After reading his computer specs, I am cured.

IT S A MIRACLE!!!111 :bounce:

I think he has a right to whatever he wants in his sig. Up to what the mods will allow anyway. It's pretty common in forums where people ask for technical help. Much easier to compare systems and share ideas that way.

As for it causing jealosy, pfft... I guess some people are just too easily offended. Having a faster computer doesn't make you a better person.
