The "Aux Power" gauge seems to be nothing more than the equivolent of a stamina bar in other games. It probably limits sprinting as well as providing flashlight power etc.

Why would Freeman be an alien?

He's just a badass scientist who survived Black Mesa and attracted the G-Man's attention. How unfortunate.

I'm sure it's for sprinting and Flashlight power, but i dunno if it's used for more stuff. If you watch the E3 strider videos you see he goes faster and the aux bar is activated. I dunno where a video of the flashlight is, but i'm like 99% sure it's used for that too.
