The game comes w/o a manual and i can't figure out how the gravity gun works. All i can seem to do it use it to throw items that are close. Is that it or does it do more? I notice if i point it at something not real close it makes some low volume noise and ther "pinchers" sometimes start opening. Seems theres more to it than just throwing close objects. So can anyone explain how to use it and it's capabilities it in more detail?

edit: opps......wrong forum ! Well, i'll wait for a while and if no answer i'll repost in the correct one.

Right click to pick things up... :p

If theres an object futher away hold right mouse (secondary) and it should start to slide over, closer to you.

Alyx tells you how to use the grav. gun when she gives it to you. Then makes you practice with it, I don't know how you managed to miss that...

She hasn't given it to me yet. I gave it to myself via a cheat.

alt fire...it's not that hard...
did you even try shooting primary or secondary fire?

Come on, it's not that long to wait :P

i'm not saying it is......i just was wondering how it works and didn't know it's given to me up the road somewhere.

In all honesty, there isn't much to do with the gravity gun until you do get it. Trust me, I played through the game with it from the start and found myself lacking things to do with it. They don't give it to you until before Ravenholm because Ravenholm is where it really is needed.

I find it interesting how you managed to go through all the trouble of getting the cheat for the gravity gun, but then can't figure out how to use it. :P

And Reginald is right about there not being much use for the gun until it is actually given to you. Valve has done a tremendous job of designing the levels to suit your current arsenal.

Hope you're having fun. :)

Yeah. The first chapters without the grav gun are built to be played without a gravity gun, so there is little to do really.

What about the mechanics

Okay so now we learned how to use it ever wondered about the mechanics on it :dork:

Please post any thoughts :dork:
arrrggghhh physics :dork:

I wonder if the Rebels will make a tank with the Gravity Gun tech?

By using the Gravity Gun to pick up anything and use as projectiles?

Instead of having a turret, it has a really strong Gravity Gun, which picks up stuff its pointing at, and then can shoot it off.

THe gravity gun manipulates zero point energy fields to work, hence the name zero-point energy field manipulator. don't know how it works but it is a real experimental technology.

but... but... but.... the technology of it all
how would the actual workings of the gun, the mechanics, not how it works in the game, how it would work in real life, how WAS IT DEVELOPED :p

One day, Eli experienced a rather painful bowel movement. Upon inspection of the goods, he discovered what we now call the zero point energy manipulator - the gravity gun!

riiigggghhhhttttt wtf does that have to do with the technological side of things

Oh somebody link him to that site where it shows stuff falling off ceilings filmed upside down.

How does it work? It creates a single point of gravaity useing a single point gravaton ( a very small weak black hole). It uses Xen cristials becuas they are muilti-universial cristails that are beter for making the single point.

Or First fire= Cannon a object in front of you. Second fire= pick things up. Pick something up the you can use it like a cannon.

a very interesting point and i believe that it could be possible as this might actually work in real life kind of, if you were to somehow make a nothingness inside of a certain point when you fire a kind of trigger then it would indeed be possible to make a thereotical "Gravity Gun"

In the 80's we called it the 'Dust Buster'. It failed to overtake the market held by the upright multi-bristle vacuum particle manipulator/eliminator, or "vacuum cleaner" though.

Keywords: "If you were to somehow"

By the way, "nothingness" is called a vacuum, and a small vacum isn't enough to attract large objects. Plus, there is no way you can create a "point of nothingness" from only one direction. The gravity gun is pure imagination, it can't exist. And blackholes, no matter how small, would warp the object by crushing it's molecules and completely sucking it in. You can't create a point of gravity at the end of gun point, that's just dumb.

Let me get this straight, you assumed the developers took time to create a weapon that wouldn't be given to you later in the game?

What?

In order for The GravGun to work right, you must press F10

Didn't you know? It was delayed for so long so they could add lots of weapons you don't ever encounter and lots of enemies that don't appear in the game.

i know how the grav gun work!!im a inventor so i know,ok here it goes, the gravworks by 2 ways, the black hole n' d trigger, when u pres the trigger,it creates a tiny black hole that is concentrated at 1 point, the when its infront,a trigger in the back hit is with high,erm...force,throwing the thing at high speed.....thats my theory ok?.....

To get the grav gun to work you must place a very strong magnet on your PC.

Aaah, the oh-so friendly HL2.net community...

Seriously, the stronger, the better.

Ok for the first thing; you dont need an education like gordons to know that. im in grade nine and i know it.
second of all it would be thereotically possible to do that.... the black hole thing could thereotically work if there was some material somewhere in the universe resitant to it.
and third of all it would NOT BE DUMB; IT WOULD BE F***ING MAD AS

any further discussion....meh

If by "real ... technology" and "experimental" you mean "fake technology" and "useless waste of money," then yes, it's a real experimental technology (see here)

As for how the Gravity Gun could work, I direct your attentions to this article, which covers the subject quite thoroughly.
