The death scene was a parody of the SNL spoof; "Dear Sister" (you can youtube it, it's pretty hillarious), making fun of the OC. That's what the song is basically referring to (and the repeating scenes).

lighten up.. the fact that they made a box into a loved icon on the internet is quite an accomplishment in my opinion.

The player's dancing to the music in this video really is what made it great.
