my harddrive isnt that big so i decided to reinstall HL2
when i installed it first time it took 4.5gb and when i uninstalled it i thought i'd get 4.5 g back but no i only got like 350 mb
why is that happening?

Try deleting the Steam folder manually.

edit: Maybe just the HL2 folder if you don't wanna lose steam.

Did you delete it manually or through Control panel?

i deleted it thru control panel first but then manually and still i aint got all that space back

i deleted it cuz it had some problems running it so now i try to reinstall it but running low on space

You're sure there is no 'steam' folder in Program Files? Have you tried running Scandisk? Sometimes Windows will report an incorrect amount of free space on your hard drive, scandisk fixes it. That used to happen to me all the time on Windows 98, haven't had it happen on XP though.

You can also try this program called Sequoia View ( http://www.win.tue.nl/sequoiaview/ ), it will let you see where the biggest files are on your hard drive.

Ever wondered why your hard disk is full? Or what directory is taking up most of the space? When using conventional disk browsing tools, such as Windows Explorer, these questions may be hard to answer. With SequoiaView however, they can be answered almost immediately. SequoiaView uses a visualization technique called cushion treemaps to provide you with a single picture of the entire contents of your hard drive. You can use it to locate those large files that you haven't accessed in one year, or to quickly locate the largest picture files on your drive.
