Hello,

I admit I didn't play much of HL1 but I finished HL2 (with frustration.. lots of unanswered questions!). Googling around, I got even more unanswered questions regarding HL1 and HL2, especially about the G-Man.

My question: At the end of HL1, what exactly happens after Freeman is given a choice to work for G-man or 'die'? Does the player have a choice, or will the computer automatically select a choice for you? If it's your choice, what exactly happens in each of the two choices? I'm particuarly interested in what exactly happens if Freeman refuses. Is he sent to a land with infinite enemy or something?

Another question is a group picture I've seen of Black Mesa scientists:

One of them definitely looks like G-man. What do you think? He doesn;t resemble the enahnced-image of HL2 of G-man, but he clearly looks like the one in HL1.

Bonus question (for those who have the time, but it's not so imp): Can someone tell me the exact 'dialogue' (in quotes, since Freeman never really talks!) of G-man and Freeman at the end of HL1?

Thanks!!!!

You have a choice..if you just stand there he says something to the extent of that it's a shame. and then you are transported to a planet with alien grunts as far as you can see. The other choice, after you step off just goes to the half life credits and says: "Subject: Gordon Freeman Hired"

Here's the end of HL1

After defeating the last boss, you are teleported to some place in Xen and the G-Man is standing if front of you.

"Gordon Freeman in the flesh. Or rather, in the Hazard Suit. I took the liberty of relieving you of all your weapons. Most of them were government property. As for the suit, I think you’ve earned it." *You are teleported to another place in Xen*

"The border world, Xen, is in our control for the time being thanks to you. Quite a nasty piece of work you managed over there. I am impressed." *You are teleported to another place in Xen*

"That’s why I’m here, Mr. Freeman. I’ve recommended your services to my employers and they have authorized me to offer you a job and they agree with me that you have limitless potential." *You are teleported into train car that you were in, in the beginning of the game but it is floating through space*

"You’ve proven yourself a decisive man so I don’t expect you’ll have any trouble deciding what to do. If your interested, just step into the portal and I will take that as a yes. Otherwise, well, I can offer you a battle you have no chance of winning. Rather an anti-climax after what you’ve just survived." *The train car door opens and a portal appears in front of it*

"Time to choose…"

(If you go in portal.)
"Wisely done, Mr. Freeman. I will see you up ahead."
Subject: Freeman
Status: Hired
Awaiting Assignment

(If you stay in the train car, the portal disappears and the door closes.)
"Well, it looks like we won’t be working together."
*You are teleported to another place in Xen where there is an endless army of Aliens*
"No regrets, Mr. Freeman."
Subject: Freeman
Status: Observation Terminated
Postmortem: Subject declined offer of employment.

About that one picture, it's not the G-Man. It's supposed to be one of the HL1 scientists called "slick" that looks like the G-man. Slick Scientist From left to right it's Random Scientist, Eli Vance, Another Random Scientist, HL1 Einstein Model Scientist, Scratched out picture (Dr. Breen perhaps?), Random Scientist, Dr. Kleiner, Gordon Freeman, HL1 Slick Model Scientist.

Hope that answers your questions.

I think the person with the scratched out face is definitely Breen.

The characters I knew immediately when looking at that picture (long before this topic :P) were:

Eli (left, rear)
Dr. Kleiner (2nd from right, front)
Gordon Freeman (right, rear)
G-man (right, front) (not 100% sure, but it def. looks like him to me :upstare: )

I thought it was Breen scratched out as well (my guess says it is! :P)

Its not the G-Man, he didn't work at Black Mesa, its the scientist with black hair, in hammer editor his head was called 'Slick'.

The names were so great for the scientist heads, Luther, Glasses, Einstein and Slick.

Ah... Ok :P
I never really played HL1 much (kept gettin motion sickness :|), I loved playing HL2 through several times though

the one that you think looks like gman is in fact the scientist in the lower left box in this pic.
