Half Life 1: I'm stuck

I'm in chapter "On A Rail" at the end of the track where there is a door that won't open to allow me to go further. The walkthrough I found says to use a grenade at the trip mines in the tunnel to open the door which I had already done & that doesn't work.

I found a thread on here where some dood had the same problem & I followed advice given to him which was to re-start Steam/the game, verify the files & this has not worked. I don't know if he got his fixed coz his thread got locked.

It took me forever to get where I am coz I suck at the old skool maneuvering. I'd hate to have to go back to the beginning of the rail after "Power Up" & have this same $hit happen to me again.

Any ideas or tips anyone? It will be greatly appreciated.

Is this the place in which you need to drive around in the transport cart?

That bit really got me as well. I ended up just jumping down a hole somewhere and carrying on. Don't think that's the way youre supposed to do it though.

I remember the area but not exactly what you're supposed to do. All I remember is that you can climb those sloping walls beside the red door and there's something up there - either ammo or some way to progress.

Up there is just a power cell for the hev. Normally, all you need to do is approach the door all the way and it will open. You can always just cheat and noclip through the door, you know.

Cheat? Whatsa cheat? Naw, I only do that after 2 or so full game completes & I'm bored. I play the first time around the way the dev wants me to see it.

I just got an answer from a total HL nerd who has a book for reference & he also told me to just walk up to it. I did just now & it works. I feel really lame now. Didn't think of that one!

Well, apparently. None of the regular nerds in my life knew the answer.

I believe you go up the ramp to the right. The ramps being the sloped concrete blocks either side of the door. There is certainly a power cell up there, that I remember. Thinking further about it, I recall going through the door after a few attempts. I don't think it opened straight away. You could attempt to load it at the last auto-save and continue from there.

Are you certain there's no way to move up at the top of the ramps? Like a hole or something?

Oh god I remember that part. It took me about a half-hour to realise that you just have to walk up to the large blast doors and they'll open.

I never had a problem with it. First thing I tried was walked up and hit "E". I guess the simplistic minds find the simple answers first

I made it out of that room & yeah, it was awesome. I love a big challenge & that room brought it.
