Alright, at first you may think "They are the same game, but just on different engines." True. But some people have told me that "HLS has some diffrences than HL1".

Also, some people prefer one over the other.

So just vote in the poll, and make sure to give reasons why you like one or the other.

Personally, I prefer HL:S because the engine is moar recent.

If you say that you like one more than the other, you're an idiot. They are both the exact same game with EVER SO SLIGHTLY AI *if really anything at all?* and some different water effects. hardly enough to point fingers at the "better" one.

I prefer HL because of retro, and it because I wouldn't feel like an idiot buying it. The differences aren't major enough to get me to vote, though.

i like them both, only because i've played the original to death and the new one adds a slight bit of realism to it as well

I prefer the original because of the hi def pack and i don't think you get gibs in HL:S. Apart from the fancy water effects which to me look bad as the rest of the game looks outdated yet you have fancy water effects that stand out and look wrong.

HL:S is crap, the added physics and water really bring out the game's age and makes it really... ugly.

I prefer the original, but only really out of nostalgia.

I played HL:S expecting it to be what the BM:S project set out to do. New textures, new models, what-not.

Needless to say, I was disappointed.

The Gold Source version is better because:

1) It has support for half a decade of user created content.
2) The enhanced water and two enhanced skyboxes of the Source version just end up looking out of place in the sub-realistic, cartoon world of Black Mesa.

Neither version fixes Residue Processing.

In HL1 you can use the hivehand to destroy the Nihilanth's energy bolt projectiles. You cannot do this in HL:S.

I kinda like the idea of Half Life on source engine but they could have updated the models and textures and what not.

I played Half Life many years ago and then it sat on a shelf for ages, with fond memories. When I purchased Half Life 2 via Steam much later I decided to give the Source conversion a go. What I found was I had trouble making out any difference between the two, having had a gap between them; with it all looking and playing near exactly the same, I struggled to see the point of doing it at all.

Black Mesa: Source is going to be epic though.

Hmmm, I voted for Half-Life but considering Half-Life: Source has better widescreen support I might have to reconsider that.

I struggled to see the point of doing it at all.
They wanted to try their mod tools from the point of view of a mod maker so they made Half-Life: Source (for singleplayer modding) and Half-Life Deathmatch: Source (for multiplayer modding).

And since you've done them why not release them? They began as just a small bonus for some of the HL2 bundles I believe.

the source version just seems cartoony and strange with the added physics. thats why i prefer gldsrc, even without the Blue Shift HD pack.

I guess some just find it to be a crappy level. Admittedly, it's not my favorite, along with Xen. Story wise both levels are great, but they're rather annoying and short.
