half life 2 "A Red Letter Day"

hey, its my first post, if its not in the right place please tell me. I installed half life 2 today as well as a other games as a part of the orange box. I am near the end of "a red letter day" after been teleported outside of the lab. I am now stuck at the part where a npc should drop me a crowbar for half an hour. all he does is say "hi gorden" once every 15 seconds, i have been jumping up and down moving around just below him try to get his attention, but nothing has worked and i cannot progress in the game. please help me. I did try to reload the game a few times already. thanks in advance

did you use any cheats at all? Try deleting your saved games and start the game new.

I have not used any cheats, its a fresh install. but i did get through that part by cheating, used the console to give myself a crowbar just to get to the next stage

Yeah, that's no good. You're not supposed to have the crowbar yet so I think it creates a bug. You're either gonna have to start a new game or go to a save point from before you entered the cheat.

EDIT: Or just restart the chapter. Should be pretty easy since you haven't really progressed too far into the chapter yet.

Best thing to do is restart the chapter by going to 'new game' then choosing the chapter again. You're only a small way into the chapter so you won't lose much. Also, weapon cheats will cause problems, don't spoil the game for yourself.

I did that with the grav gun. i spawned it near the end of Route Kanal and it was fine going through Water Hazard with it. In fact it really helped me out at some points (ditto the shotgun, pulse rifle, RPG and crossbow that i also spawned!!! :E), but then i reached Black Mesa East and realised (with the help of some guys on hl2.net) that I would be in trouble if I tried to continue the came with the grav gun. I've still not tried reloading the game yet but I'll get round to it.
