i just bought a new ati x1650 pro 512 mb graphics card and updated the drivers....cheched the game cache and everything and the half-life 2 games and also the source games displays everything weirdly....the maps all messed up and the walls and floors become seethrough...i dont know how to fix it except maybe i should go with nvidia instead of ati......can someone please help me.....the only problem i can think of is maybe i didnt uninstall the integrated graphics card before upgrading but i dont think thats the problem.....i dont even know how to do that
I also forgot to mention that my pc came with 2 gb of ram and i added another gb of ram...do you think that could be the problem???? And 1 other thing....im using windows vista ultimate

ATI, 3GB RAM - that's not the problem.

Try the following:
1. uninstall graphic drivers and then use DriverCleaner in safe mode
2. restart and install drivers again. NOTE: make sure you disable your integrated graphics card in your BIOS
3. check if your motherboard requires drivers. If so, download and install their latest version
4. try renaming your steam_user_name folder inside \SteamApps. Maybe there are some odd leftovers. You can then copy your savegames if that solves the problem

I don't know of any problems of Source engine with Windows Vista - that's probably the first game ever that worked fine under that system.

Drivers may still be problematic under Vista, though. If you're using the latest Catalyst drivers, try downloading older ones, version 7.2.

edit - more information about your hardware would help a bit

Well, every video card currently has problems with Vista, and Vista has problems with HL2 and HL2 has problems with Vista. I propose you just wait a bit until more stable drivers come out and an updated version of HL2 for Vista comes out.
