Half life 2 does not run

Half life 2 or anything else does not run. I get this error

The instruction at "0x2421b227" referenced memory at "0x0d72b138". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program

Tried updating?
Left-click on the Steam tray icon
Select "My Games"
Select "Games" tab
Right-click on "Half-Life 2"
Select "Properties"
Select "Updates" tab
Is it set to automatically update?

nvm i have it working the video drivers were not installed
