half life 2, episode 1,2 and portal problem

n00b to the forum so sorry if i am posting in the wrong section/asking a stupid question

when i enter gameplay on any of these games i just look the sky/ceiling and spin. i can shoot/walk but can't aim. i've tried three different mice and re-installed steam and everything. i have the latest drivers for nvidia geforce 8800gt, running quad core q6600, vista 32 bit, 4gb ram. can anyone help me i'd like to be able to play w/o staring at the sky. thanks

it does that to me too, but only at very short not so random periods of time, try a different mousepad.

Mousepad sound like a good bet.

It could be a mouse sensitivity problem, try fiddling with the settings in game.
