Hey everyone, I am new here, and I have some weird problems with HL2. One day, I launched up HL2 Lost Coast to finally play it for once and it didn't work, it had a black screen and the Vitsa loading symbol. It didn't come up woth the Valve logo or nothin'.
Then, I tryed HL2 itself to see if it worked, and I had the exact same problem that I had with Lost Coast. Black screen, Vista loading symbol. Every other game works, it's just HL2 Lost Coast and Half-Life 2 that don't work. Even Episode 1 and Episode 2 work. This has been annoying me for ages. Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks alot,

Edge.

Would I need t download any patches, or is there any patches available for HL2?

I followed the instructions on that link you sent me and I renamed the HL2 folder (I wanted to keep the saves) and still the same thing! Arrgh! God damn, Half-Life 2!

Steam automatically patches your games.

Ah.. not sure what's wrong, though.

So true. Vista really sucks. I never really knew why it was so bad til i got it. ewwwwwww

everyone seems to jump on the "lol, vista sucks" bandwagon so quickly. I haven't had any major issues with vista.

I'm using Vista Ultimate on my newest computer. Runs like a charm. Including Half-Life 2 and other Source-based games.

Well gee good Pesh isn't here. That guy could rant about Vista for weeks.

There should be no problem cause it says 64-bit active and its compatible with Vista...

HL2 doesn't run well in 64 bit mode without some fixes I believe.

A temporary fix is to right-click HL2 in the games list, click 'Properties'. From there, click 'Set Launch Options...' and enter -32bit and select 'Ok'.

Unfortunately this takes away the option to play 64 bit, and it is playable in that mode, but I think you have to tinker with some of the files.
