Half life 2 stops responding.

I just got to the Sandtraps chapter in Half Life 2, but the game stops responding or just freezes when i drive past certain point in the tunnel at start of the chapter.

Does it hit a loading screen when this happens?

No, it happens after loading screen.

Have you tried validating your game files?

Try loading the map that it screws up on from the console, or the one after (sv_cheats 1 > map d2_coast_>number<)

Or in your My Games list on Steam right click on Half-Life 2 & go verify game cache, this fixed the problem I was having with Episode One awhile back.

How can I do that?

Open your My Games tab in Steam > Right click on Half-Life 2 > Click Properties > Click the tab labeled 'Local Files' > Click 'Verify integrity of game cache'

Verified the game, but it didn't help. I will try to load map from console.
Edit: How do you enable console? Adding -console in target field is not working.
Edit2: Nevermind, got the console working.

To use the console: Open Half-Life 2 > Go Options > Keyboard > Advanced > Enable Developer Console - So now you can just press ~ to open it.

Which part does it stuff up at? I'll tell you what map to load.

The map is d2_coast_09. I tried to load it, but still stops responding at the same location. I don't want to load next map, I will then skip a part of the game. Maybe I should try to reinstall.

Well try loading map d2_coast_10, if it works then great, if not then reinstall.

If you're worried about missing part of the game, don't, you're not missing out on much - This map is pretty much just drive, shoot, drive, shoot.

What he said. coast maps are not important for storyline. You'll lose some ammo and cool nature views but it's not worth risking over the whole game.

Changing the map didn't fix the problem, now it just crashes at different point. I will just copy my saves and reinstall the game tomorow.
