hello everyone

I have recently purchased the orange box and was wandering if i needed to play half life 1 in order to understand the story of the HL2 game + episodes. I have played halflife1 only up to the bit with the big machine breakdown and stuff. So what is there i need to know in order to understand the half life 2 saga?

thanks.

That guide is mostly bull, but it's good enough.
No way they know when portal takes place.
It could take place in the 80s for all they know.

I suggest the OP plays through the rest of Half-Life rather than turning to a "storyline guide" that's riddled with inconsistencies and half-baked theories of the author's own, theories which have no backing and are not even loosely supported by evidence.

And if you'd love to see any of my other suggestions, there's a search button. :)

I don't mean to come down unnecessarily harsh on you, but I absolutely hate that site.

^Wow, you've just opened up a world of hurt.

Edit: Nevermind, Darkside beat me to it.

fair enough. i have little/no recollection of whats on that site aside from a timeline, so you're probably right anyways.

to op: you really missed out though, you shouldve bought hl1 two months ago when it was $.99. not that an extra $9 is really a bank buster when you factor in mods and awesomeness.

kk thanks everyone i will try looking into buying it but i am on a tight budget saving up for a 360 and everything.

I remember the guide in the original boxed half life game saying that gordon freeman was hired at BMRF in 1998 (or around that time, maybe 1999, I don't recall exactly).

i remember the employment letter, but that was dated 200x.

Leave this place and never return. I grow weary of seeing this tripe perpetrated here. This man is wrong. Extremely wrong. It is not even close to being "good enough."

I'm not too familiar with the half life story, so could you point out some glaring errors on that site?
