Ok guys the day is soon approaching im 14 an i cant wait for my dad to updat the computers memory for me so i can play half life 2 with no probs :D i have seen millions of pics an it looks so incredible what i wanna no is

did it live up to ur exspectations or surpass them???

and do u think it was better then number 1

half life 1 was so addictive mainly the gman and the fact that each step u took helped you learn more about what has realy happend and thats what kept me going OWE I CANT WAIT TO BUST SUM ICHTYSOUR SHELL ... i herd der not in da game only in the teleport process but i also herd if you go out into the ocean far enogh there out there anyone game enough to go check for me :D :sniper:

Half life 1 was incredible.

Half life 2 was good.

Here's how it breaks down (for me):
HL1:
Weapons: 10/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Physics: 7/10 (for its time, 10/10)
Graphics: 6/10 (for its time, 10/10)
Mapping: 10/10
Story: 9/10

HL2:
Weapons: 9/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Physics: 11/10
Graphics: 11/10
Mapping: 11/10
Story: 4/10

I was blown away by half life 2's command of physics, interactivity, and above all, WIDE OPEN SPACES!!! You can walk, and walk, and walk, and walk, and take a good 1/2 hour to go across some maps. Everything reacts to physics: dead bodies, cars, trains, boxes, fruit, ect. Truly incredible.
However, WTF HAPPENED TO THE STORY?? I mean, there are bits and peices scattered around and you can kinda get the gist of what's happening, but it wasn't clear enough for most people (myself included).
The other thing that really dissapointed me is that, once again, there is only one path. You can only go through HL2 one way. There's no alternate route you can take. That was a dissapointing thing about HL1 for me, since, with hammer, i was able to make HL1 multi-level maps that had alternate pathways to them, so i expected them to at least have one or two major branches in HL2. (You know, go along one path or the other but end up in the same place nonetheless).

Anyways, that's my opinion, but play it for yourself, mabye you have a different opinion.

i am goin to go noclip over to one of those itchy bastards and pump them so full of impulse 101 the wont even no what hit them ROFL any way ill take a screenie if i find one and ill post iff not also

I thought HL2 kicked HL's a*s in every single way possible!!!
Except for the weapons. I wanted the OICW to stay in!!!
Anyway........it is well worth your $50

HL2 has miles more plot, it's just harder to find. It's not just finding OMFG SECRAT UNDER TEH COKE CAN also.

well i checked all the levels with ocean and nothing found i just kept getting attacked by the leeches but i had god and noclip so it was all good

thanks for ur info guys HL2 sounds confusing an i dun get how the combine came into the picture .... they kinda look like summin outa star wars... which smells NO ICHTYSOUR... :( i love em der cool anyways thanks again guuys

The only reason HL1 seems better to some bpeople is the good ol nostalgia factor. We tend to overemphasise things in HL1 that werent in HL2 and underemphasize the new stuff.

Yeah, i felt HL2 surpasses HL1 in every single way, including story (not that HL1 wasnt an amazing game). If you take the time to try to understand the story, you'll find that its brilliant and had lots of thought put into it. So far its my favorite storyline in a game with the exception of deus ex. I sorted the story out fairly easy, but I know there are a few sites that explain the story in full, although some of them assume too much. Like deusexmachina said, HL had practically no plot until HL2 built on it. In HL, you were simply a scientist fighting off an alien invasion, in HL2, they hint that many more things were happening in HL1, i wont spoil them for you guys though.

sorry, no icthyosaurs to fight this time around though, you only see one for a very short time. They gave it a full model and attack animations though, so expect to see it in an expansion pack.

To answer the topic starter's question though, HL2 definatley reached my expectations, which were simply that it was going to be the best game of all time. I just wish it were longer, and bit bit less linear.

As for the OICW, it woulda made no sense to keep it in. You already have two machine guns, the SMG already has the OICW's nade launcher and the pulse rifle already has the OICW's acurracy. Therefore, u already have all its features in guns you already have.

Yeah, the OCIW was mostly pointless unless they changed it. But some realy good weapons did get scrapped. Fortunatley the SLAM is coming back for HL2DM along with a useable stunstick.

But it would've been nice to have the hopwires, sniper, gauss, etc..

What i did not like in hl2 was the lack of variance in monsters. The monsters that stand out in my mind from hl1 were hearcrabs, zombies, hgrunts, controllers, vort slaves, assassins, marines, chopers, icky sharks, xen assult ships, turrets, barnacles, invincible giant green snakes, and giant steam weilding leviathans.
the monsters that stand out in hl2 are zombies (3!!! different flavors), headcrabs, combine stormtroopers, and the occasional mechanical menace.

Sure hl2 was fun, but it got a little stale. The only suprise were the ninja zombies. I rember being super excited when I found a new breed of allien tearing apart a marine.

I really wanted the molotov cocktails the most. That would be so sweet to chuck those badboys at zombies in ravenholm. Im pretty sure where those crates of wine bottles in ravenholm were used to be molotov cocktails before they cut them out of the game. It made sense as a trap weapon made by father gregory. I do miss the OICW though I think it was cooler than the overwatch rifle.

Good I Wanna See Ichtysours In The Exspantions :d Perhaps A Racing Game?

HL2 was better, except the plot. I felt it cool in HL1 that Gordon was just an ordinary man, no super-powers (except the crowbar and HEV suit  )

lol good old crowbar i riped off a chair leg at skool its metal an black so im thinking of making it into a crowbar an painting it red wit a white tip :D it would be a great weapon :D

HL2 all the way, although HL1 was more fun in terms of tension and claustrophobic corridors, HL2 is just more....varied :D

Wasn't gordon still the same ordinary man in HL2? he didnt gain any super powers. In what ways were the plot of HL1 better?
