Half Life 3

it was said by a number of people that half life 3 will be coming out in about 2-3 years.Is there any proof yet,is it going to be better graphics,gameplay,etc.Anyone know more info about this?

HL3 has been confirmed already by VALVe but there is no confirmed date or speculation in which this game will be released. I truly doubt 2-3 years, so for now sit back and relax and enjoy HL2. It could be 2010 by the time that game comes out

well if i remember correctly they would use the source engine (with modifications) in HL3, so i doubt it will take another 6 years for them to make it. But anyway, 6 years isnt that long, if they just make one hell of a good game.
But its Valve, i'll trust them.

Since they're going to use the same engine, only with modifications, it's mostly adding content, not writing an engine from scratch,after all. Given that, I think that a development cycle of 3 years should be good for releasing a nice game. I'd bet Spring 2008 as HL3 release date.

Well, the whole reason that it took so long to create Half Life 2 was because someone stole a playable version of Half Life 2. Don't ask me how, but whatever it was they must have stole it off of their e-mail. It took them a long time to recover who it actually was, but as soon as they found who it was it was a couple of monthes before Half Life 2 actually came out. I highly doubt that it will take 2-3 years to make Half Life 3.

I'd agree with that. I think HL2 took so long because Source was written from the ground up. HL3 will most likely use a modified Source engine in much the same way that HL1 used a modified Quake 2 engine. We're already about to see the first incarnation of these modifications with HDR lighting in the Lost coast level. I think it's highly unlikely Valve will write another completely new engine for HL3. I expect it will most likely be Source with lots of HDR style modifications & improvements.
