i was wondering how i can open up maps like de_dust in hammer world editor? does anyone know?

thanks

No!

Don't go there please. Its generally done bad, and concidered stealing. To edit a map that aint yours to add just that one snipzors tower in the middle of dust is just not a good idea. If you are however trying to find out how entitywork is done then you may do this.

You grab a decompiler (like VMEX) and you decompile the map to get a vmf. then you load that into hammer.

Now since I know that you are going to edit an existing map anyway (since your topic says so) and you are not going to look at entiywork (since de_dust hardly has any), know this.

No decompiler is perfect. The vmf you will get will most likeley be corrupt and in many cases it will not compile because of this. So even if you get the official maps in hammer you might not be ably to implement your changes.

And your de_dust_2k6_nighttime_with_snipzor will be frowned upon.

Happy decompiling.

thanks, i dont want to do nothing anything lame like that, i just want to see how the angles work on surf maps, i just said de_dust as an example :)

yeah right? :P

IMO surf maps tend to fall in the same category as the de_dust_2k6_nighttime_with_snipzor maps do..

Thats my 2 cents.

decompiling HL2 maps is very worthwhile. you can learn a lot. doubt you can get much from a CSS map though

yea vmex is a very good program. i always use it to see how something is done in anothor map to add to mine.
