Help me create a server please!

Hello, I am trying to make a server so me and my brother can both play on it.

We are both at the same college, and we each have permanent internet connections.

Every time I click create game it comes up as a LAN game, and I have tried almost EVERYTHING!

I set the sv_lan "0" in the console, and the cfg file.

If i type sv_lan in console, it says sv_lan is 0, but it still says server is running as a Lan server yada yada ( 9999,0 ) or something of the sort.

I just want to create an internet game so that me and him can both play, seeing as the LAN doesnt spread from my dorm to his dorm. There are no routers etc, just strict internet connections, this should work right? Am i forgetting something?

If anyone can help please would be greatly appreciated.

sorry i posted it on single player and i thought it was more relevant to put on DM threads and i wasnt sure how to delete it. sorry. any ideas?
