After installing hl2 the first thing i did was ... changing the resolution to something that my screen cant view (of course i did it accidently...) >.> so i got the blue screen saying "out of range" right after i run hl2 ... i was trying to find it in the config file but ive failed ... afterall ive reinstalled my hl2 ... and the resolution was still the one that ive setted up! I hope i can change it somehow without formatting my drive u_u .... maybe there is something in registry that remembers resolution setting... ?

I hope that any of you guys knows how to resolve my problem and id be very thankfull for some advices either here or at my mail which is [email protected] ... Thanks in advance and sorry for my english =P

Well, the HL2 config file is in \Steam\SteamApps\yourlogin\half-life 2\hl2\cfg
I dont think that file has the resolution info in it though.

yeah, the config has nothing to do with resolution >.>

run the game with the following command line :
Code:
-w 1024 -h 768
or
Code:
-w 800 -h 600

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\cstrike\Settings and change the ScreenWidth and ScreenHeight would do it too

thanks to both of you, these were the things that i was looking for, especially the registry edit ^^ thanks again and now im off to play the best game ever :P

Is there any way to change refresh rate manually? My screen is 1280x1024 @ 75hz, and I can run other games at 1024x768 @ 75hz fine. I wouldn't mind doing this for HL2, seems a little bit sluggish at the higher resolution, but I can't find a way to change refresh rate :(

you could just use the command -window (or something like that) and fix the problem from there :P

ATI has a lock refresh tool, that worked for me.

I had a look around my display settings, couldn't find any way to lock it. Fancy writing me a little map?
